    Hi Brendan,

    I’m on OS X 10.9.1.
For now, I’ll copy my logos by dragging and dropping.

Yes, they were encrypted fields in Bento. As a work around, I exported them to a Numbers table. I’ll add the form manually in Tap Forms and copy the results manually from the table. On encrypted fields, I’d really like to be able to have those display in Tap Forms as •••••• unless I click on a little display value widget… sometimes there are other people around, and it’s uncomfortable to have my passwords displayed in the open. If there would be a way to handle these similar to the way Bento does, it would be great.

    Hi Timo,

    Thanks for the error information.

I wonder if Tap Forms hadn’t created the Photos folder yet on the Mac that you had failures importing the photos on?

Could you please try adding one photo manually to any form? Then try your import from Bento again? I’ll have to look into the code to see if it’s not creating the Photos directory before the import process. I really should just create it when the app launches. I do some folders, but for Photos I create it only when you add a photo.

    Thanks!

    Hi Brendan,

congratulations on the new release – looks awesome! Well worth the wait :-)

I had mixed results on the Bento photo import myself. It did not work on the Mac where Bento is installed and the template export was made. The same template file import went well without problems on a different Mac – all images are in place
(both Macs were freshly updated to OS X 10.9.1).

On the Mac failing the photo import I got several errors in the console (shortened list in error.log – compare to success.log). It seems Tap Forms is looking in the wrong folder to import the images?

If you need any more info, drop me a line.

    Keep up the good work!

    Regards

    Timo

    Hi AppleDog,

    1. I had another customer tell me the photos didn’t import. However, I tested it using his own template, but with my photos and the Bento importer correctly imported the photos. So I’m not sure what the common denominator is here that’s causing this problem.

What OS version are you using?

    2. Is your password field of type “Encrypted” in Bento? I need to add support for that one still. Sorry.

I will be adding support for backgrounds in a future update.

    Thanks!

Just a heads-up, with Tap Forms version 2.0, the following field types are not supported during the Bento import process because there are not equivalent field types in Tap Forms. Well, the encrypted field type is supported in Tap Forms, but I haven’t checked to see how Bento exports those just yet, so it may be ignoring them at the moment.

    IM Account
    Encrypted
    Message List
    Simple List

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Tap Forms 2 looks fantastic!

I imported my first bento form and it came over, except for these 2 issues; perhaps they are limitations that I’m not aware of:

    1. A photo field came over as empty. Is this correct?
    2. A password field on Bento did not come over at all; not even as an empty field in TapForms. Do password fields have to be recreated manually from Bento?

Is it possible to fill a rectangle with a photo texture to emulate the form I used on Bento? If not, this would be a nice feature for a future update.

The possibility to select my own fonts and sizes just blew Bento out of the water!

Thanks, Brendan. I’m at least happy to hear some of my requests are in the que for future versions. I’m going to work into using TapForms but for now will probably need to keep my mailing list files in Bento as long as I can. I am, however, looking forward to the time when I can make the transition a permanent solution. Can’t wait for v2.0 so I can try importing some Bento templates/files.

    Hello Colleen,

Thanks for your feedback and feature suggestions.

Adding a more spreadsheet like view is on my to-do list for Tap Forms. It’s a big job though so will take time. It would allow you to do the copy/drag thing like you can in Bento and Excel. But for now there’s no bulk editing abilities in Tap Forms.

I also plan on adding label printing support soon. It’s also a big job too, so will take more time.

    Thanks!

    Brendan

I’m using the Mac version. The search function seems useless to me. I want to search records that meet two criteria. Status = Yes AND Checkbox = No. First problem – how do I specify the 1st criteria? I can type Yes into the search box, but that looks for YES in any of my fields – including the checkbox which is a direct conflict with what my second search criteria will be. There needs to be a way to bypass the generic search and go right to the specific field search. Take a look at Bento – I can go straight to advanced search by clicking a little down arrow next to the magnifying glass.

I just bought Tap Forms today to replace Bento. I’m loving how it syncs with the cloud compared to syncing Bento over wi-fi only.

One thing I loved about Bento was that in the “spreadsheet” view I could copy all my records and past them into an Excel file. I could also paste them directly into my bulk email mailing program. In TapForms I can select all my records, but I cannot copy them. My computer just goes thunk when I go Command/C and nothing gets copied to my clipboard. I know I can export as a .csv file and import into Excel, but that’s so many extra steps. Would it be possible to make the data in the spreadsheet view available for copy/paste?

In Bento I have a volunteer database in which I have a field that has a check box in. I’d check the box after sending their names to the name badge maker. After the event was over that box needed to be unchecked in preparation for next year’s event. I could uncheck them all in the spreadsheet view by unchecking the first one in the list and then dragging the corner of the cell down to uncheck every other record much the same way you replicate cells in Excel. Based on another post on this forum, it appears I won’t be able to do that with TapForms. Is that something that could be incorporated into a future update? Besides manually unchecking 100s of boxes, how do you suggest we do something like this? I hate to think I’d have to export to Excel, make the changes, and then import back, but that seems to be the only way to make bulk changes like this.

One more thing. Although I never used it, Bento had a label printing feature. Now I’m going to need to print labels for a new project I’m taking on and I don’t see any option in TapForms. Any plans for that?

    Thanks,
    Colleen

Having just caught up with the fact BENTO is no more, I am looking at the premium version of tapforms, there is one feature which seems to be missing (or I cant find mention of) which I am specifically seeking – that is the ability to link to and play short video clips. even if it is limited to say a 10 second clip – this would be invaluable to me. is there any plans for such a field?
    Thanks

So I imported a Bento file with some date time fields (ISO YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS) as well as some date fields (YYYY-MM-DD). It seems pretty crazy there is only a global setting for date time and not a per field selection. Anyway, if I select YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS as the date time format then NEITHER date time nor date fields import. If I select YYYY-MM-DD as the date format, then the date fields import, but date-time fields don’t import.

how do you input the date in the ‘CREDIT CARD’ form in the expiry field. I tried several ways to input it but im getting “the value is invalid”. For example the expiry date is 5/14, how do you input it.

Is there a way to custom format of the date just like bento?

    Awesome Brendan!

That seems to answer my next question. I am creating a health records form and thinking about scanning certain documents and attaching them to the records from the Mac and was hoping the attachments would then be available via other Macs and via iOS devices and since I am using iCloud it sounds like they would? Correct?

    Thanks!

p.s. I am new to Tap Forms (with the discontinuation of Bento) and I am totally LOVING the app!

    Dear Brendan,

I have switched to Tap Forms in the wake on Bento no longer being supported. I’m pleased to see from the blog that version 2.0 of Tap Forms is awaiting approval from Apple. Although I’ve imported my key database from Bento already I will do so again using the new import Bento features described in the blog post.

The main thing I’m struggling with at the moment is searching my database. The key feature of Bento which I can’t replicate was the ability to do an advanced search without having to put anything in the search box. I appreciate that I can do similar advanced searches in Tap Forms, but I can only get at them by first putting something in the search box. Since every record is different the entry in the search box will then limit the dataset. I don’t want to do that. I want to use the advanced features to interrogate all of the entries (and perform moderately complex searches to identify items which meet specific criteria).

I did consider putting in an extra field in the database and populating it with identical data so that I could search for that knowing it would hit every record and then use the advanced search on the dataset. I tried this, but cannot see a way of putting a default entry into all my existing entries. As there are hundreds of entries I don’t want to go through each one adding this identical data marker.

It may be that I’m missing something simple on either the operation of the initial search to get to the advanced search feature or using the identical entry workaround, but either way I’d welcome any suggestions. And it may also be that v 2.0 will solve the problem.

I haven’t yet added the iPad version to my portfolio, but am keen to do so if this issue can be resolved.

    Best regards

    Steve
