    Hi Gunnar,

Well, I’ve been working on Tap Forms since 2008. That’s 7 years so far. I guess we’ll see how long I can keep it up. Hopefully until I take my last breath, which I hope will be a very very long time from now.

The nice thing about Tap Forms is that it can import your Bento templates. So migrating to Tap Forms is probably much easier than it was to migrate from AppleWorks to Bento.

I don’t think Yosemite is as bad as perhaps some people are making it out to be. I’ve been using it for quite a while now and I like it. Sure there are some bugs here and there, but Apple releases updates regularly so it’s going to get better over time.

    Thanks!

    Brendan

    Hello Brendan

You’re first idea i tougt of myself, it’s the easiest I think, but than I have to upgrade to Yosemite, and that feels no good, because if it’s so “bad”
That users say it’s not easy to go back to mountain lion.

The other idea doesn’t work because I only have one computer,
The thing is that I have so many files in my bento program that I was forced to convert once before from Appleworks to bento, I don’t now how many hours I put into that, so I really want to be sure that it works.

One other thing I wounder about, how long time will tap forms be there?
Bento was owend by “the big” FileMaker but they put down bento anyway.
    Just a thought?

But it don’t seems to be any other program than yours that can do what bento does, so in the end i probably have to update to Yosemite, but I think I will wate to I can see Yosemite is less unstable.

    Tank you for your answer
    Gunnar

I am another Bento convert. I used this feature a lot on Bento. Enter data on phone, sync to Mac, eventually copy and paste a group of data (certain columns) from the grid view to Excel.

    Hi –
I’ve just migrated over from Bento – thanks for making the process so seamless. All my libraries migrated easily, requiring only some minor tweaking of layouts.

I’m creating some saved searches to mirror the smart collections I used in Bento and have a question. In a library (sorry for the Bento terminology) of bills/expenses I have two fields: Bill Date and Due Date. I would like to create a saved search for any bill that was either issued (Bill Date) OR due (Due Date) in 2015. This would result in a slightly different group of records than a search in which both were required to be true. When creating smart collections in Bento, I could specify either that ALL search parameters must match or that ANY search parameters must match. As far as I can tell, in TapForms, the search rules must all be true for a given record to be included. Is there any way to mimic the any/all behavior from Bento?

    Thanks so much!
    Paula

    Hello Gunnar,

You could always export all of your Bento templates on Mountain Lion and then upgrade to Yosemite and then import them into Tap Forms.

However, you may be able to get the old version of Tap Forms only if you have already purchased it. I haven’t tried this, but you may be able to purchase the new version from a Yosemite or Mavericks Mac and then install the old version from your Purchase history on the Mac App Store onto your older Mountain Lion Mac.

Apple has a document about that here:

    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201377

The way it works on iOS if you have an older iOS version is you can use iTunes to purchase the latest version and then use the App Store on your iOS device to download the latest compatible version for your device. I think it may work also on OS X, but the Mac App Store won’t let you purchase a version of an app which is not compatible with your OS version. My theory is that if you purchase with a newer OS version (even on someone else’s Mac), then maybe you can install the last compatible version on your older OS from the Purchase history screen.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Hi Marc,

The iPad version can import CSV files, but the Mac version does a much better job because it has the dedicated Bento template importer.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

Hi! iam new here and not so good in English, my dilemma is, I have the latest bento on my iMac and on my iPhone, and I really like it, I have the latest iOS on my phone but only OS X 10.8.5 mountain lion on my iMac, the dilemma is if I download Yosemite bento wount work, and if I don’t, the latest tap forms wouldn’t work in mountin lion. So my question is why can’t I download an older version of tap forms that’s works in my mountin lion so I can test to move my database from bento to tap forms, and see if it does the job for me! and a another thing OS X Yosemite seems to be a very unstable system, if you reed about these one that’s installed it.
    So what shall I do?

Can I import my Bento templates and records on my iPad, or do I need the Mac version for that…

Not sure if I should post this here or somewhere else. I just finished importing my first database from Bento. Using Tap Forms (v3.0.3) 611 and Bento 4.1.2 —- One set of records had (I say had because it did NOT import to Tap Forms) a field named “Mos. Held” — where it consisted of calculating the number of months between two date fields. When I originally designed my Bento data base I got assistance from Bento staff to arrive at a formula (I’m not a programmer but thought it could be done). The calculation for the “Mos. Held” field in Bento that worked was:

    (Year( Sale Date ) – Year( Purchase Date )) * 12 + Month( Sale Date ) – Month( Purchase Date ) – (Day( Sale Date ) < Day( Purchase Date )) + ” Mos.”

FYI- Both the “Purchase Date” and the “Sale Date” had the format Month Day Year that was set through a pull down window that displayed a calendar. (see attached .tiff document)

Is there ANY WAY to recreate these results in Tap Forms?????

    Hi there

I’m another slightly angry x-Bento user who is finding a comfortable new home here with your excellent app

I’ve managed to get most of the way in my transfer from Bento – However, I’ve become stuck !

    So – My question (regarding my book-keeping) – :

    In Bento, I include a multiplier (1.0, 0.5 or 0.67) in my pull-down category titles (e.g. 0.67 * Fuel)

This allowed me to multiply my Outgoings type (Category) by the amount (currency £) spent … in order to calculate how much I could offset against tax (£ x multiplier)

This does not appear to work in Tap Forms

Is there something straight forward you can suggest (whilst allowing me to maintain my category names)

Thank you – hope you can help

    Jol

I was going to ask about this, too. I liked that feature in Bento because I could see my net income less expenses/fees.

    Hi Perrin,

It looks like you need to setup some Saved Searches to filter your records by various criteria. Bento called them Smart Folders I think. Tap Forms they’re Saved Searches. So just click on the gear button to the left of the Search field when you have your form selected and you can setup your rules and criteria for how you want your records filtered. You should be able to replicate the way you had it in Bento. Although Bento had a few more filter features than Tap Forms.

For example, you can have Tap Forms automatically move a record from one filter to another if it no longer meets the qualifications of the search rules for the currently selected Saved Search.

There’s a bit of info on Searching in the online user manual.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

(First Time Tap Forms User) I just imported Bento databases (successfully I think) into Tap Forms. In Bento I had been following several family members’ portfolios and recording: Person “A” (current holdings); Person “A” (sales) … for about 6 or 7 individuals. Tracking the current holdings is fairly straight forward; equity name; number of shares; price; cost basis; date purchased, etc. etc. When recording “stock sales” (since an entire position may NOT be closed out) it becomes a little more challenging because I used to enter the sale date and then had a calculation field (for those positions that WERE sold) that gave me the total “months held”, along with a “cost basis” minus the total sale value–to calculate a profit/loss. The record would “automatically” be moved FROM the current portfolio file to the sold positions file, only for those shares that had both a “sale date” and a “sales amount” … and I could search all “sold” records based on any given calendar year. I know I’m not doing a very good job of explaining what I’m used to tracking in Bento so I guess I’m now just inquiring to see if anyone out there knows about any GOOD portfolio tracking templates that would work in Tap Forms. H-E-L-P.

I have not been able to get my iCloud to sync once. I have tried on an off for months. Tried everything in the forums multiple time. Deleted accounts, turned things on and off. Deleted the app etc. Now when I try to turn on iCloud sync on my iPad it says enabling iCloud Sync… and just sits there and spins. For hours with no change.

I guess this will never “just work”

Anyone know who decided to cancel Bento so I can punch them in the mouth?

    Hi Brendan,

Thanks so much for your response. I’m glad that it is showing both computers and that it looks like something is connecting. It makes sense that the db is large and is taking forever to upload. Our internet speed isn’t great either. So, maybe these things are why we have been trying to get all the data from one computer to another computer for a couple of months now.

However, we were wondering what it will mean operationally to be patient. Do we leave our computers on overnight? Usually, when we click sync, it only lasts a few seconds to a minute – how can we get it to do more? Is it working on syncing even when the bar isn’t moving across?

I left one computer on overnight last night to see if it would sync. This morning, a duplicate address book (it says 5 listings but is empty) reappeared. I keep deleting this, a change that never comes into the other computer. Then, this duplicate address book keeps reappearing on my computer because it is getting it from the other computer.

We really like Tap Forms. We just need the sync to be working so that we can effectively share files between the two computers. Is there another option we can use – like sharing between two computers in the same network in a different method not dependent on iCloud (like Bento did)? Please let us know any suggestions to get the info on both computers.

    Thanks!
