I have created a large form, and in the process of testing different character formats to correctly import csv data I have created and deleted the form quite a few times. My database size is now 3.2GB, and the “real” data is perhaps a few hundred MB at most.

Now when I run the Vacuum Database utility from Database Maintenance (on a 63GB iPhone6) it runs for a minute or two and then TapForms closes itself. When I open it back up, it appears nothing has changed.

I can, and have, run Analyze DB and Re-Index DB, and Re-biuld Search Index, but I need to recover space by vacuuming. I have tried a dozen times, same failure each time.

Is there a limit in SQLite to the database size for “vacuuming”? Any suggestions?

I have tried plugging in to find the photos folder. However, it did not exist. Going forward I am assuming the following 2 things: (1) the data was collected (pictures taken) before the 4/24 update. (2) the app subsequently updated after the data was collected. Given this, here is what currently exists:

-There was no photos folder on the iphone or in iCloud for TapForms (at least, not one I have been able to find.
-When exporting the CSV, no filename appears in the Photo fields.
-When using the app, photos show up as previews, as they should, but when they are tapped I just get a black screen.
-I have subsequently tested the app using the same form, by creating two more records with photos. The two test images showed up in a photos folder and the exported CSV shows the filenames, but the previously collected data still does not show the filenames and no photos.

Based on this, I suspect one of two things occurred:
-There was a bug in the previous version of the app that did not properly save the photos and the filenames in the CSV.
    OR
-Somehow the updated caused the photos folder to be deleted and the related filenames to be deleted from the database.

I am guessing it is very unlikely that I will be able to recover the original photos, though I am open to any suggestions as to where I may find them on my iPhone.

However, the preview images do still showup in the form, thus I wonder is there anyway to extract the preview images? Where do I find them, or how can I extract them?

    Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Is this something that could be implemented in the future?

I ask because I see that it’s also not possible to search on the “Link from Form” field, but this would be very helpful when exporting data from a search.

I have a situation similar to Mark’s, but with the addition of a Tasks form linked to the Projects form. I was thinking that the easiest way to invoice my clients would be to export their project/task data into Excel, but I can’t see any way to select the projects and tasks for just one client for exporting.

Am I missing something? Is there a workaround?

On a related note, I can’t seem to export the “Link from Form” column either. I get some sort of file corrupt error, and Excel “recovers” the file with the linked column empty. If I don’t export the linked column, I don’t get this error.

    Cheers,
    Grey

TonyT – if you really need to recover those dates, I’m wondering if you have another mac or i-devise you could put TapForms on and then import the backup to that devise. It sounds cumbersome, but if you really need them, it might be a solution.

    Hi Allen,

If you delete a field and then add a new field with the same name, it won’t bring back the data from the deleted field. When you uploaded the change to iCloud, it would tell your other copy of Tap Forms to also delete the field. Unless you have a backup, there’s nothing that can be done at the moment. It sounds like it has been deleted. If you can restore to a backup then you can recover your data.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Hi Thierry:

If you get really, really, stuck, you might be able to adapt some of the instructions posted on Brendan’s blog to recover much of the Bento information–if you have a recent backup. If you’re a risk taker, you can probably do the steps with your “live” data file and maybe get all of it. Here’s the link to the blog:

    Exporting photos from Bento

When I went from Bento to TF just over a year ago (before Brendan released the Bento import feature), I successfully completed the steps in the link above, but realized that duplicating the same flat structure from Bento was dumb given the functionality of TF.

I ended up exporting CSVs from Bento and built up the TF import files to take advantage of TF features. After that, I never turned back.

I have no idea if the steps above are still valid today–maybe some of the more experienced Participants can chime in on that one.

By far, the easiest is to get Bento running in Yosemite or in a virtual Mac and use the import function to TF. Good Luck!

    Hi,
    pre-purchase questions:

    1) i understand this is not a Bento support forum, but with the upgrade to Yosemite i can’t open my .bentodb file anymore and realise it’s about time i say farewell once and for all to Bento. Moreover, if i can’t recover that Bento db in the first place, there won’t be much need for Tapforms for me anymore of course. So, would you have any tips or ideas as to which would be the best way to try and recover my Bento database? :-//

    2) does Tapforms support smartlists like bento did? A smartlist is a subset of the main database based on one or a combination (AND, OR, ….) of several filters.
For example: I had a smartlist that showed only my prospects (potential customers) which were not tagged as lost yet, AND of which the “recall date” field was set to today or a date later than today…
    Is this possible?

    3) Which brings me to a last question: is the parameter ‘today’s date’ available when creating calculations based on date & time?

Your feedback would be much appreciated and will hopefully help me move forward and come back and purchase a Tapforms licence really quickly!

    Topic: sync loop

    Brendan,

When starting TapForms and there is no network available syncing stops with the famous message. However, when network returns the sync proces seems to be stuck in a loop showing this message over and over on all my devices.

Resetting AND rebooting is the only option to recover out of the loop.

sorry, but this is very annoying to say the least, because the message prevent us from working further.

A check for network connection before syncing perhaps?

Can you send me a backup of your database and I’ll see if I can recover them?

    Hey Brendan!

I recently upgraded Tapforms on my iPhone (3.7.1 (39)) and Mac (2.1.1). I unfortunately haven’t been able to upgrade my iPhone or Mac to the latest iOS yet as my backup HDs are on the fritz. Some time after upgrading, (and perhaps turning off/turning on iCloud sync?) I have been getting a ‘fatal’ error on launching Tapforms on the Mac. It gives the dialog box “Restore Windows” (see attached screenshot). Neither option (don’t restore/restore) recovers the application.

Should I throw it in the trash and reinstall it? Delete a p-file somewhere? Not sure what to do to fix it. TF is still running and collecting a lot of data on my phone, so I can restore from the phone version’s database if that will be compatible with the mac.

As a precaution to preserve my data, I have turned off syncing on the phone for now. Didn’t want to cross contaminate with the possibly compromised one on the Mac.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I am building up a Many-to-Many relationship for Product/Parts forms
One Link-to-Form of each Product records links to many Parts records

Due to Most of Parts are common to all Products, and each Product contains 10-20 Parts in general.
I try to duplicate a new Product record from an existed Product record and modify it.
Duplicated record looks fine, but the Link-to-Form field to Parts of original record is cleared.

I need someone’s advise to get rid of this problem since it did take a lots of time to recover the original links after I duplicated new records,

    many thanks.

I am using Tap Form both on my iPhone, iPad and Mac. Recently, I noticed that my iPhone Tap Form stop synchronizing with my Mac and iPad. Everything looks normal, it even says synchronize successfully (something like that) after I used the iCloud Sync icon. But it is just not the synchronized database on my iPhone. On the other hand, iPad and Mac are fine. After I reset my iCloud sync settings, I can only see iPhone on the registered device list. I am using the same iCloud account on all my device for sure. And what’s worse, when I tried to backup the database in my iPhone, it just takes forever. I don’t have a huge database (everything included is ~8 MB). I waited for almost 30min, and still no progress in generating backup file. Eventually I gave up, and Tap Form just generated a zero sized backup file.

Now my database seems trapped in my iPhone. It is working fine by itself. But I am worried that the more I used it, the more information I am going to lose if I have to delete the program without recovering the database in the future. So help me please, Tap Form!

Okay, I deleted the app and reinstalled it. Now I have no records in it, and unless the backup I made recently was made on the iPad, which I doubt, I have lost the data. But maybe it was done from the iPad. Where would it be? How can I recover it? It’s the best I can do.

    Hi,

I have a simple database that I keep tax receipts in. Sometime in the last month, something has happened and the list is blank, although the forms list shows it has records.

When you try to export it says it can as there are no records.

    I have the latest 3.5.5.

Is there anyway to recover that data?

Some of my db’s are fine, others like my tax are not and affected by this.

    Thanks

I had to replace my iPhone and used the restore iphone from backup. Tapforms installed and all my data seemed to be there, but I had an issue. One of my forms is encrypted and my password no longer works on the form. I then restored the app from a backup that was on Dropbox. The app still does not recognize my password, now my iPad tapform is corrupt and the password does not work on it. What happened, I really need to recover the forms. I know the password but it just stays locked, is there a solution.
