I am very pleased with the general ability of Tap Forms to import data from exported Bento templates — I thought there was no way I’d ever be able to preserve my linked records from Bento!
But, I have a challenge. I have several Bento databases that have “related data” fields that point to one particular Bento database. For ease of discussion, let’s say I have “Food Experiences” and “Event Menus” databases that each have related data fields that point into the “Recipes” database.
Is there any way to import all 3 databases and preserve the links? As far as I can tell, I can only export one Bento database at time. I can start by exporting “Food Experiences” and say “yes” to including the related database “Recipes”. But when I go to export “Event Menus”, if I again say “yes”, I get a second copy of the Recipes database. If I say “no”, I get the expected “no links at all”.
I fully expect the answer is “no, there is no way to export all these as a bundle” (or import them, properly, as a bundle).
But, I thought I’d ask…
Bad news for Bento users, good news for Tapforms! It appears that Bento is now becoming buggy in Yosemite Beta 9 (they’re now on Beta 10). When you launch Bento it appears to hang while “Opening Database” and a window pops up that something to the effect of:
“ATOS must take control of another process, so that the debugging process can be continued. Enter your password to allow this.”
If you hold down the *alt* key you can choose a new empty database, but the screen flickers.
Maybe future releases of Yosemite may fix the problem, but I doubt it. It’s just a matter of time before OS X kills Bento, assuming it already hasn’t.
That’s the push I need to make the inevitable plunge into the world of Tapforms and delicious cloud synchronization (rather than the drudgery of manual synching in Bento).
Now to install Bento on my GF’s Mac and start exporting my data into Tapforms.
Brendan, what are you going to do with all the extra income? ;)
We are changing from Bento and would like to use TapForms for Mac on 3-4 computers all with the same apple id.
Wanted to find out how TapForms works when being used on multiple computers: when records are inputted on one computer, are they automatically updated on the other computers? Will records be editable on all computers? Can we use the app on multiple computers at the same time?
Also, where are the records stored? Only in the cloud where we are dependent on internet connection? Or are the records also stored on each machine?
Please let us know if there are any specific resources that will help us as we get started setting up the database so that items will sync across the computers (we aren’t using mobile devices at this time).
Thanks!!
Topic: Audio?
Hi
I’ve been using Bento for years. I just downloaded TapForms demo and imported a few files. Everything seems to be there (mixed up, but there) EXCEPT the audio. I record my sessions with my clients and keep the mp3 files in their database record. Is importing audio from Bento not possible?
I then tried to just import directly from my computer and it seems that you can only record audio straight. Is that right? Is it not possible to import mp3 into the record? I find that hard to believe. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks,
CaatTopic: Bulk e-mail
Hi
I’m an ex Bento user. I find TapForms awesome perfect for my small business needs.
However there was one cool feature in Bento which was the ability to select multiple e-mails and send an email to those selected only.
Have I missed this in TapForms or does it not exist. Can it be added.
I do use mailchimp also but sometimes I just need to zap a quick mail to a few students.
e.g. I have 50 students. 5 have just joined my Band Club. I created a saved search for Band Club Members and now it would be nice to select their emails and just write one mail and send to them all in one go. All my students have agreed to receive email from me anyway.I think I have explained myself
Can this be done?

Topic: Sub-sections for databases
I have some verrrry large data bases going back several years. Having the entire DB sync seems like it might be burdensome and use more space than ideal. Is there a way to subdivide DBs, so one can sync (or send to cloud) only part of a DB? For example, Records 2010, Records 2011, Records 2012, Records 2013, Records 2014 might be the subsections. I might want to put only 2014 into the cloud. I’d like to have the option of searching the ENTIRE DB on occasion (all years), but sometimes only 2014. Is that possible currently? If so, how?
I’m just learning Tap Forms, and so far am pleasantly surprised at the quality of the program, and particularly the ease of moving in Bento DBs. Thank you for your continued improvements!
