But how do I tell Bento to sort records using the order of the values in the Pick List instead of alphabetically? I just don’t see an option for that.

    Hi Mathieu,

I’ve been trying to figure out how Bento sorts their records by the order of the values in the pick list, but I cannot see how to do that. You can sort ascending or descending alphabetically. That’s all I can find.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Hi,

Not sure why – I couldn’t comment on the previous topic on that matter :

    Pick List sort order

    To sup um :
    – I have a long pick list, with ordered items according to their value/importance
    – That order doesn’t match alphabetical ordering
    – I’d like to have that order used for sorting in the list view

Anyway, the proposed solution is … not a solution – I have a very long list of sorted items (about 60 items) – putting numbers in front of them is not an option.
That feature would really be appreciated (I just migrated from Bento, where I was using it)

    Thanks !

I also am looking for a way to crop the photo itself once it’s in Tap Forms. I’m considering converting from Bento. I use it mainly for a collection inventory. Cropping photos within Tap Forms without sacrificing the integrity of my original image is highly important to me.

Is it possible to crop the image size and window in Tap Forms as it works in Bento, or will you be providing an update with that ability soon?

    Hi Daphne,

I’m sorry but Tap Forms won’t run on OS X 10.6.8. There was never a version which would run on Snow Leopard. Sorry.

Make sure that you’ve updated to Bento 4.1.2 first before you export your Bento libraries as Bento Templates. Then Tap Forms will be able to import those files including all your data and photos.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

I am a Bento user needing to move on. I need to replace my 2009 iMac (wish Apple would update the 21.5″ range soon!) and need to be able to move the data out of Bento into Tap Forms first. If I download TF 3.5.3 will it work?

I have TF running on both my iMac and my MBP. With Brendan’s help got the iCloud sync set up correctly and activated. Thank you Brendan.

I imported some 200,000 records from my Bento App into 30 Forms (some with only 200 records, others with 15,000) Have automated sync set up for hourly on both machines. After two days no forms have been synced.. If I go to my icloud.com page I can’t see a folder for tap forms or the expected files.

I really don’t want to use dropbox or other cloud storage since I’ve rationalized all my data files to iCloud over the past few months and with this slight exception all works extremely well.

    Any suggestions?

Hello! Been a very happy user of Tap Forms the past few months – it’s proven to be a very good replacement for Bento for me.

Anyway….I decided to beta test El Capitan last week, and since then..I haven’t been able to get Tap Forms to display any of my forms. When I open Tap Forms I’m able to get the top menu, but that’s absolutely all I can see.

Is Tap Forms compatible with El Capitan? If so, any ideas what my problem might be?

I look for a solution, but installing a new version of OS X on a Lion Mac is quit impossible unless you do it with unsupported softwares.

So, and I share this with the TapForm community, you could:

A – try to share screen with an ipad with tapforms app installed
    Or
B – keep using Bento till you could by a new apple product

Brendan is there any other solution that you can give us?

    Thanks for your willingness!!

Hello. I am trying out Tap Forms for Mac to replace Bento. It appears the trial version doesn’t have the edit button at the bottom of the forms list. Also, I cannot find the option to create relationships between forms. I would be using this as a membership database and would be tracking annual payments for each member. It appears this would work well for my needs. Is there a limit to the number of records and/or forms Tap Forms can accommodate?

I should have added that this form and database were imported from Bento. They were not initially developed in Tap Forms.

I am a HEAVY Bento user (most useful iOS App I have). Since it will soon no longer work with iOS and OS updates (I’ve stayed at iOS 7.1.2 and OS 10.9.5 just to ensure continued Bento functionality), I have been searching of a replacement and my searches keep leading me to TapForms.

I take it from a brief perusal that the only sync option at present is via iCloud. One thing I love about Bento, is it keeps my private data on my devices only. I really like everything I see about TapForms, but do not wish to store any private data on iCloud (even though it is encrypted).

I suspect I am not alone in such concerns. Is setting up a wired or wireless sync option in the works?

Taps looks really good to me and probably could make me forget about Bento divorcing me if such a sync feature is available; otherwise I would need to go to two solutions to replace one.

Would appreciate any ideas or solutions other may have had to deal with the iCloud sync issue or any feedback on future changes.

    Thanks!

    Hey Brendan,

I totally feel your plight on being a one man operation. All I ask as a new purchaser of this awesome product, is that when you’re able to include iPad layout functionality, that it’s not accompanied by additional cost. I left Bento for Tap Forms, and am really enjoying it.

    Thanks for your hard work.

A a musician I have a database with tunes I play, one record for each tune. In each record there is a note field: [performances] containing dates and locations of places where I played the tune (see screenshot).
Imagine that at the last concert I played 50 tunes, at date june 4 2015 in Amsterdam. So in 50 records the next line of text in the [performances] field would be (Dutch notation) “4-6-15 Amsterdam”.
My question: is it possible to add this line to the 50 note fields [performances] in an automatic way.
To challenge Brendan a bit: I could do that in Bento by concatenation in a calculation field ([performances] + ”4-6-15 Amsterdam”) and changing the field type back to text. I know this is impossible in TapForms, but maybe I overlook another possibility.
In fact if this would be possible, I would import my Bento database into the brilliant TapForms and would never use Bento anymore, but now… 50 times (or more) copying a line of text, after every concert, hmm.
Apart from this, thank you Brendan for your extensive and fast support for everyone.

Thinking along would be very much appreciated!

    Rudy Ephraim.

    Hi,

(Brendan: I continue to be impressed and pleased with Tap Forms. In general, it exceeds my expectations. I’m very happy that its development has progressed so far and that it has become an excellent and enjoyable successor to Bento.)

When I edit a date/time field, wanting to create an alert, the field label “Alert” is dimmed, though I can still check the box. Is the dimming meaningful or a mistake?

The listing of alerts within Tap Forms under “Favorites & Alerts” works differently from how I expected it to and how I would like it to in several ways …

The record counter next to the listing of alerts under “Favorites & Alerts” remains at 0 even when an alert is displayed.

An alert is listed until the scheduled time, then the listing disappears.

Most important, Tap Forms does not actually issue an alert.

So an alert is set; there is no visual cue that an alert exists; the alert remains in a list until an alert should be triggered; but an alert is not triggered; and then the evidence that an alert had been set disappears.

It would be more helpful if an alert were actually issued at the scheduled time and/or if the alert record would remain so I would know which alerts I have not acted on yet.

When I click on the “Add to Calendar” button, an event is added to my calendar, but Tap Forms usually, but not always becomes non-responsive with a spinning beachball.

In my calendar, the event appears with the contents of the first field in my form. I need that field to be first for the most useful display of data in a table format. But it is not useful in an alert. So it would be nice if I could choose a different field to display in the calendar or if the contents of the “Notes” field were displayed.

If I have misunderstood something or if there is a better way to manage alerts, please let me know.

    Thanks!

    Rick
