Maybe I’m doing this wrong, but I’d like to be able to export a csv from an advance search. I edited the advance search to show just the columms I want but when I go to export that, it exports all the columms in the main Address book form.
Also, when you update the main form, in my case the Address Book I imported from Bento, does that automatically update the advance search as well?
Am I doing this the right way?
thanks.

I am trying to add a second email address for my clients who have them. When I drag the email address field onto my form, I change the name to Email Address 2. But then the program automatically picks up the email address that is in Email Address 1. So I get a duplicate that I have to delete. But when I enter the new email address in Email Address 2, it changes Email Address 1 so I have a duplicate again.
Is there a way to fix this? I thought perhaps I could create new fields, but I can’t find a way to do it. I am very new with this program trying to wean away from my ages old Bento.
Thanks for help

Hi.
Is there an upgrade price to go from 3.5.19 to the latest version 5? I think it is noramlly 50.00US. Thinking of going from Bento to TapForms.
Also, is there a way to have changes made from TapForms DB change what is in Apple Contacts i.e. a sync feature? I don’t think this was available the last time a checked several months ago. Just wondering.
Thanks.
JL
Yes. I’ve created a new field type called Table, which is effectively just like the Bento Simple List. On iOS you’ll get a field that is actually an embedded table. So you’ll see the same thing on iOS as you see on Mac.
Hello, I´m new with TapForms and I love it, but now, with the next update to High Sierra, I would need that TapForms can import simple lists from Bento, because I have a lot of works in it. Do you think it will arrive in time?
Thank you very much and best regards.
Thanks, Mike! I tested changing the field format on a dummy import and it wiped all the data for that field entirely, across all records. According to the manual, this type of Duration field to track time is properly imported as a Number field and Number is the right way to track Duration. It’s not explained how one can pick and choose field format during Import from Bento?
I’m now thinking it’s more of a display bug than a field format issue. The fundamentals seem to be fine, since the duration data is correct in the single-column list view, multi-column list view, and in the Default Layout view. It’s my imported template layout that is giving the problem. (although if I have one record active, switch to list view, then switch back, Hours Worked will temporarily show up correctly and then truncate again as I switch records).
I tried creating a New Layout, but the data is truncated there as well. I made the box bigger but that doesn’t seem to matter.
Thanks,
Daiya
Dayia,
If you want a field to track hours and minutes, then the field type should be “Time”, not “Number”. For a Time field you can define many different formats from a pop-up menu. If you have already imported the time data from Bento into a number field, it is not clear what will happen if you try to change the field type after-the-fact. Since you’re just in a testing mode, you can just give it a try. But I think that you might need to start over with your Bento import, making sure that you’re importing the time data into a time field from the outset.
Hope that helps,
Mike
Hello, I am new to Tap Forms and having problems understanding how TF tracks a duration of time in my database. Reading the manual has not clarified. I have two specific issues:
Context:
Just yesterday, I moved over from Bento/Snow Leopard to Tap Forms/Sierra. I am using the trial version of TF5. It appears that I have successfully imported my Bento templates, for the most part.
Issue 1) I had an Hours Worked field in Bento, which allowed me to track how long each project took me. In Bento, I had to enter it like so: 3h 20m; 10h 15m; 30m; etc. In TF5, that full data shows up and sums properly in the multi-column list view, but in the individual layout record, it is truncated to show just the hours, eg, 3, 10, 0. What is going on?
Issue 2) I cannot get the Hours Worked field (a Number field) to behave. In the individual layout record, it won’t accept data at all. I have tried changing the Number Format, I have experimented with entering various formats and all I ever get is “invalid data”, or, it just changes Hours Worked to 0 without telling me. In the multi-column list view, it will accept data, and I finally got “:30” to produce “30 mins” (although “30 mins” produces “30 hours”, “.5” produces “5 mins”, which seems bizarre). The individual record, however, declares “:30” is invalid, with the Number Format set to Time (hrs, mins).
thanks for any assistance!

I’m currently using Tap Forms 3.5.19, though I have also been trying out Tap Forms 5. When I originally created most of my forms (after importing from Bento), I created custom layouts and easily tabbed from one field to another in the order they appeared on the layout. (I have added, deleted, and moved fields over the years.) At some point, the tab order stopped working properly, and pressing tab will skip fields or return to the first field. This problem seemed exacerbated when I was testing Tap Forms 5. How can I get the tab order working again? The fields used are text (some entered manually, others via pick list), number, calculation, checkbox, date, note, file attachment, and picture.
Thanks.
Paula
1. Yes. It was (probably) from an original Bento database (not all fields imported the way I’d expected)
2. My previous version of TapForms was TapForms 3
3. I am using TapForms 5
4. I added a new Web Site field to my from which I cannot edit
There are seldom any silly questions. I did have the layout mode turned off (double checked by turning it on and off again)
Thanks for the tip about the export. Right now I am also weeding out dead prospects, those that originally might of been targets, but because of my more defined focus, are getting dropped from my list. Because I have two lists of targets which contain some of the same names (don’t ask why, it is just so, and that is why I started comparing lists), I still have a lot of weeding to do. In that case doing a copy and paste isn’t the worst of the job.

Kimberley
Kimberley,
Just to clarify: you started out with a Bento database that had a simple text field that you used to hold web links (URLs). Then you imported that into an old version of Tap Forms, where your field was imported into a plain text field in old Tap Forms. (How old was Tap Forms? Even Tap Forms 3 included a “Website” field type.) Now you’re using that form in Tap Forms 5, and you’ve added a new Web Site field to your form, which you can’t seem to edit. Is that all correct?
Gotta ask one silly question: By any chance did you add you new Web Site field to a custom layout, and perhaps forget to turn off Layout mode? If the Layout inspector panel is visible on the right side of your screen, then you’re still in layout editing mode and you won’t be able to enter text. Just a thought.
What is your intended workflow? Were you planning to go to each record and copy/paste the web links from the old text field into the new Web Site field? That might get tedious for 200 records. You should be able to simply change the field type of your text field to be a Web Site field. Those are compatible field types, and your data will be preserved. I just tested it.
Hope that helps,
Mike
Hi Brendan,
I am trying to update some old files from a previous version of TapForms. In the previous one (which probably was imported from Bento) I didn’t have an automatic web-link, it got imported into TapForms 5 as text box. I added the weblink box, but cannot seem to enter anything into the field.
(I recorded my screen, but since you cannot see the cursor being placed nor see me typing, it really doesn’t make sense to upload the recording).
Perhaps I am overlooking something. There are about 200 files to update.
I was also having problems syncing to the iCloud today.
Regards,
Kimberley
You’re absolutely right. Before noon gets one value and after noon gets a day later. Just tested it. Before noon got one day earlier. After noon was correct. Bento had both a NOW() and a TODAY() function. So maybe it would be better to have TODAY() instead of NOWDATE() to return the current date with the time set to midnight (end of day).
Thanks. I’ll try it. I want to clean up the old forms anyway, as some are out of date and some seem to be either placeholders/form suggestions from the original TapForms3 or left over from Bento from way back when.
But before I touch anything, I’ll be doing a big back-up of files and data. Just in case I touch the wrong thing. (Those buttons on the iPhone are really, really, small)
Have a good evening
Kim
I know that when I purchased Bento for Mac a long time ago, I also had to purchase the iPhone and the iPad versions each separately. Tap Forms for iOS is now universal so it’s a single purchase, but it is a separate purchase from the Mac version. My apologies if this has caused some confusion.
