If I could sync between the Contacts database and Tap Forms I would have done that already. That’s why in Tap Forms 5.2, the only option is to Import Contacts. There’s no Sync contacts function.

The problem is, Apple changes the internal ID used to identify contacts whenever Apple syncs its contacts with other devices. I don’t know why they do that or how they manage to still keep them in sync. It’s really annoying.

If I had a never-changing unique identifier that I could definitely refer to that always referenced the same contact from the Apple Contacts database, then I would be very happy and I could add Contact sync to Tap Forms.

I seem to remember hearing that before Bento was discontinued, they were going to remove the Contact sync feature because, although it worked fine when you synced with your desktop, because the iPhone came out and caused this unique identifier changing issue, Bento was going to be removing that feature at some point. I could be wrong about that.

Yeah, I kinda guessed that it would have something to do with Apple’s licensing or something like that???

So it looks like until I can sync TF DB TO Apple’s Contact and changes to Contacts reflect in TF (like Bento) I might just keep the un-updated of my Apple Contacts as they are and just be thankful that I have a DB that will work after updating to High Sierra. Can you put this feature request in the suggestion box?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
I have a Tap Forms database on icloud from 3.2gb.condiviso with 3 iMac, 2 Macbook air and a ipad.
    This happens:
When I look for a record from the bar, this is found and opens the tab, then it happens often that the card closes and then records me at the beginning of the record.
If the database is opened by only one client the case occurs less, but if the clients are 2 or more it occurs more frequently!

The thing gets annoying by counting that the present records are over 3500 !!

Did anyone have the same problem?
Is there a way why it does not happen?

    Thanks so much

*The database comes from a Bento migration.

    Hi Brendan,

many thanks for your prompt answer!
I downloaded your trial version and it imported bento files flawlessly.
    Great!

I am still a little reluctant about the mobile versions and also a little confused:
    – Are there different iOS versions for iPhone and iPad and do i have to pay for both versions?
    – Is the “nearby sync” in both directions?
    – I guess Tap Forms Lite is not compatible with the version 5? Why don’t you offer a TF 5 Lite version for testing?
    – What is the difference ore advantage of buying the bundle vs. the single app?

    Greetings
    Peter

    Hi Peter,

Tap Forms imports most of the Bento field types. In Tap Forms 5.2 I just added importing of Bento’s Simple List field type.

You can download a 10 day trial for Mac, but not iOS. If you don’t want the iOS version after you purchase it, you would have to contact Apple to get a refund. Developers don’t have access to the systems at Apple would would allow us to issue refund for iOS apps or apps purchased from the Mac App Store. If you purchase directly from me by using the in-app purchase on the Mac version or the green Buy Direct for Mac button, then I can issue refunds for those Mac app purchases. Just not iOS versions.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Hi Brendan,
I would like to switch from Bento to TapForms 5.
Is the import of the Bento database fully supported?

But so many people complain about difficulties with synchronisation (“nearby sync”)!? So before purchasing, is it possible to test that combination (Mac & iOS) or would you give a refund if not working?

    Thanks
    Peter

I just bought Tap Forms 5 Version 5.2.1 (Build 1698) for my macbook pro and Tap Forms v 5.2 (731) for my iphone 6S. Following installation on my iphone, it automatically did a sync. My two categories showed up as well as 1 form of 8 in one category and 0 forms from the other category (4 forms in it on my macbook pro). These are all former Bento libraries that I transferred over to Tap Forms. The one form it did import from my macbook pro is an older version that does not reflect changes made the day before I bought Tap F0rms for iphone.

I also went into Preferences on my macbook pro and enabled iCloud sync

So now I have one out of 12 forms on my iphone, and it is outdated.

I went through the videos, but only saw a video for Cloudant.

Also, I read there is a sync button you can now put on the toolbar but it does not appear in my customize toolbar under view. Perhaps it is coming in a new update?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Nick,

Thanks for giving Tap Forms a try.

Tap Forms does its best effort to convert the formulas from Bento into Tap Forms compatible formulas, but it doesn’t convert them all properly. You have to go in afterwards and make changes.

It would be helpful to see a screenshot of your formula that’s not working or if you email me the form template I can look at the formulas and see why they might not work.

But the % character was the problem you had before.

You could try Materials + Labour * 0.2 to see if that works for you. Your modification didn’t have the prefixed 0 in 0.2.

For the iPhone app you’ll want Tap Forms 5. Not the older ones (e.g. just plain Tap Forms or Tap Forms HD, those are the old ones).

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Hi,

I’ve been using Bento for years for a database fro my repair company. Ive know for a long time support had gone but since the last iOS update it now no longer work on my iPhone, which is essential.

I have got the trial version of tapforms and have imported the bento files. The database files appear fine, with the exception of a few address fields and extra telephone number fields but I can get rid of those. What I can’t work out is the calculation that I had on my forms.
I had (Materials) + (Labour costs) which adds this together and works out the VAT.
Then I had Total, which was Material + Labour + VAT = Total.
When I try and type in a new docket into the database, the field VAT and Total don’t fill themselves in and I can’t even type in them. They appear locked.
I’ve had a look at the calculation for the vat field which was exported from bento and its, (materials) + (labour)*20%. This worked for bento but doesn’t appear to work here.
I tried changing it to (materials) + (labour)*.2 and that doesn’t work.

Also what is the iPhone app that I need, there seems to be a few version out there.
Can anybody help. I would really like tapforms to work before I commit and buy the full version.

    Thanks

    Hi Brendan

I am now in my fourth day of learning the program. I have a 2012 Macbook Pro with tons of memory available. I am running 10.12.2

Over the last two days, the program has completely crashed three times. I have reopened it and contunued working. Is this a known issue. In all cases I was doing something different. In the last case, I was trying to drag imported Bento libraries(forms) from uncategorized into a category. The file would move but then show again in uncategorized as well as in the categorized. I would delete the uncategorized and it would just reappear. shortly thereafter, it just crashed. This has happened before where it kept repeating what I was doing and then crashed. Not sure if that helps.

I am going to subscribe but this is making me nervous!

    Hi Charles,

Ok that’s great. So yes, Tap Forms 5.2 will be able to import the Bento Simple List field type. You can also customize it after you import it or create new ones from scratch.

    Thanks!

You don’t have to create a form to import into. You only need a document. So setting up the fields the same as in Bento is not required.

Check to see if the form is hiding inside the Uncategorized category or another category. Click the button to the right of the category name to expand it. You should see them there.

    Hi Charles,

Are you referring to Bento’s Simple List field type?

If so, then Tap Forms 5.2 which I will be submitting to Apple for review this month sometime supports that. The current 5.1.x production release does not. So hang on until I get this update finished. Tap Forms will however import the Related Data field type from Bento, so if you have any of those it should work.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

I have been exporting and then importing all of my libraries from Bento into TapForms. One of my libraries contains critical information in a list field. When I imported the file into TapForms, that list did not come in. IS there a way to redo it so it does come in?

    Thanks

I am having a similar issue… I export one of my libraries from Bento onto my desktop (i clicked the include all records). I go into TapForms and open the form that I want to import the file into. I have set this form up with exactly the same fields. Upon completing the import, which it says it has done, nothing shows up in the file nor can I find it anywhere else.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

    Charlie
