Yikes. I just spent hours recovering lost databases, so hopefully this helps someone else…
I wanted to split my version 4 database into 2 separate version 5 database files. After importing my version 4 file, I clicked on the “right-arrow-in-a-circle” icon from the documents window and it took me to the actual database file. I duplicated that file and renamed the copy. The new file appeared in the documents window and I then happily went into each file and deleted the appropriate records so that I was left with two separate clean databases. All seemed great…
DO NOT DO THIS!!!
The problem is that both files retain the same database ID. So when you set up syncing with Cloudant, it thinks they are the same database, e.g. both local databases sync to the same Cloudant database. So once I synced the second database, it deleted all of the 1st database’s records (since I HAD deleted those records from the 2nd database), and then the first database deleted all the records from the 2nd database. So now both local databases have ZERO records in them. They wiped each other out!
After manually deleting both database files, both from Cloudant and Tap Forms, I realized I needed to separately MIGRATE the original file twice, and then go through the whole thing again.
This actually still wasn’t exactly right. Cloudant sees all the deletes. One of the two databases has about 10x more records than the other. So the 2nd database throws alerts in Cloudant since it has way more deleted records than actual records. It works, but the alerts were bothering me. So for the smaller database, I ended up going through a painful export at the record level and then importing into a fresh clean database. Which then happily synced to Cloudant.
What a pain. At least it is all working now. Suggestion — don’t allow multiple files to have the same ID.
Side note from the User Experience icon police… The “right-arrow-in-a-circle” icon on the database documents window (mentioned above) behaves the same way it does in version 4. It takes you to the actual file in the Finder. But within a record, the same icon is used, but with a different action. Since media/files are embedded in the database now, that same icon is used to mean EXPORT (e.g. save the attachment). One icon… Two behaviors…
hi,
I cannot open my tap forms anymore, “encryption key required” (however, i can’t remember ever setting the encryption key)
I read in the forum that i can recover the key using the keychain app on my mac, but tap forms is not it (??)
do you have other suggestions how i can recover my database ?thx
PeterHey Brenden,
I reset my Mac user account password which precipitated a keychain reset. Ever since this happened, Tapforms will not accept my password. Is there any way these could be related? I know I didn’t save the Tapforms password in the keychain rather, I entered the pw each time.
Is there a way to recover a form that has been password protected?
Thanks,
Shane
Hi,
So yesterday and today a lot of customers have been contacting me about Tap Forms being damaged. At least one customer I’ve heard from used the Launchpad to delete Tap Forms in order to re-install. That consequently erased all their data. And unfortunately without having a backup, there’s no recovering.
The issue apparently is that one of Apple’s certificates used in validating the authenticity of an app that was purchased from the Mac App Store had expired. See the following article:
Mac Store Apps Stopped Working Due To Expired Security Certificate
The solution is as simple as rebooting your computer. You will be asked to re-login to the Mac App Store when you try to launch an app. Make sure you login with the same Apple ID you used to initially purchase Tap Forms.
So it’s not something that I did to cause this with my most recent updates. But I sure have been receiving a lot of emails about it. Hopefully some will see this post and be able to get back into Tap Forms quickly.
This was only an issue with the Mac App Store version. Customers who purchased the direct download version of Tap Forms did not experience this trouble.
Thanks!
Brendan
Hi I have an iPhone 5 IOS 9.0.1
tonight I updated to the latest version of Tapforms
When I restarted the app it worked fine no password requested
I used too use a passoword about 3 or 4 versions ago and it stopped working and I paid this no regard to this
when I went back to the app about 1 hour later i was greeted by an encryption key request.I cannot open the app.
I tried previous 4 digit number code and ABC encryption code I use for my credt card info and nothing lets me in
I have everthing inside this app from passwords to expenses to business mileage to credit card info.
How to I resolve this as I desperatley need access

I read a previous thread about password recovery on the mac but I use a pc windows 8
Topic: Strange bug
Hello!
I use Tap Forms to manage Passwords etc.
After Update to El Capitan i´ve encounter a strange behavior of Tap Forms: In the column there are other data than in the dataset itself. So the Name of the Dataset is i.e. Adobe but in the data set there are the informations of another service. I have added two screenshots as example.
I have recovered from the backups but the behavior remain.Any help is appreciated.
Regards,
A. Wolff
For some reason my encryption key that is required on my Mac, is not what I thought it was. I am unable to access my DB at all.
I read that I can restore from the backup file. How do I do that without knowing the encryption key, or is there a way for me to reset the encryption key?
Thanks!
