You mean sample of my Bento Template export? It’s over 50 gigs. Is there a way of exporting just a few contacts in template form for a sample? I’ve looked for ways to do that but couldn’t find it.
Also, if I delete the form and try to re-import, will it delete all the associated files? (i.e.; photos, mp3, etc. I can’t test a re-import until I trash that import because of the size. It would be eating too much space on my hard drive.)
Well, today turns out to be the day I decided I had to make the move to TapForms. I’ve been playing around with it for about a year, but after updating my iMac to Yosemite and finding that Bento no longer works there, I’m trying to get TapForms up and running. Oddly enough, Bento works on Yosemite on my MacBook Air, so I exported my templates and data to import into TapForms. Works on the Air, but no way can I get it to sync through iCloud to my iPad. So frustrated. I’m in the middle of taking registrations in for an upcoming conference. Not sure what to do, but since Bento is working on the Air, I guess I’ll keep working there and export again once I’m done. TapForms is also jerky and slow with the spinning ball popping up all the time. I hate to think I’ll have to end up buying Filemaker, but with a membership of over 1000 in one club and 100 in another, I can’t afford to have these kinds of problems.

What I added in Tap Forms 3.0 was the ability to import the Address and Address List type fields from Bento. Although it will only import one address from an Address List field. Tap Forms will split them out into separate fields. Kind of like how when you export your library in Bento to a CSV file, it will expand the addresses into their own columns.

Bento smart lists are not imported because they use a different format entirely than Tap Forms to define their searches. So I wasn’t able to import them. You’ll have to re-create them. Sorry.

I looked under the gear icon and nothing is saved there. This would be a huge time saver so I don’t have to recreate the wheel, so to speak. I’m using the new TF 3.0 on Mavericks.

I have been using Bento for many years now but after trouble with Bento and it’s lack of updates I decided to give Tap Forms another chance.
I have made some great registers for my work, one customer-register one for the orders and one for the driving with my car at work.
But as many of you have noticed the sync is not working correctly in iOS8 and Yosemite. I have after many mails with brendan solved a first sync where all entries are synced from my computer to my iPhone and iPad. But when I add a new entry in any of them they don’t sync. I have tried to log off iCloud, reset sync etc. etc. but no success.
Is there a problem with iCloud in general?
BTW Shouldn’t there be a TapForms folder visible in iCloud-Drive?
If I export to numbers, the contact info is there. Just not when I import the Bento template.
One more thing, I believe in setting up Bento, I used their pre-made fields for contacts: “email address list” “phone number list” and “address list.” It looks like maybe those are the only things that are missing, even in the default layout. I have to look a little closer, but I *think* everything else is there.
Yes, I have 3.0. I just bought it a few weeks ago. I just checked in Bento and where I input the addresses in Bento is actually connected to my apple contacts and changes when I change it in Bento. I did check that box in the privacy of System Preferences, but it still didn’t import my contact info from Bento, and I just don’t understand why none of the contact info came in or why it didn’t ask me this time. It asked me once, and that was it. That why I wondered it I need to re-install (or set everything to default, but I can’t find a setting for that). Does it import all fields from both overview and details? It seems like the contact info is the only thing that’s missing.

Well, there’s a Privacy setting in the System Preferences that will allow you to make sure that Tap Forms has permission to access your Contacts. But I don’t think this actually makes any difference for Tap Forms being able to import from Bento.
Do you have the 3.0 upgrade to Tap Forms? It should import the addresses and make them separate fields. It won’t add them to the custom layout though, but you should see them on the Default Layout.

I have purchased Tap Forms. I’m having problems in that it is not importing the addresses from Bento. I’m worried that I might have, some time back when I first was playing with it, denied it access to my address book and that is the reason why. I am considering trashing everything, re-installing and starting from scratch. Is that my best option? If so, can I just trash everything and would it then be available in the App Store to re-install without paying again? Or is there a way to get it to allow access to my contacts if I re-import my Bento Template? I’m really frustrated.

After importing my db from Bento, the column on the left side in TF shows just the resp. Creation Dates for each record in a list.
I see i can get these sorted alphabetically etc, but that won’t help much of course…
How can i get this to show Company Names? Or just any other field to for me to sort my records instead of the Creation Date in Bento?
2/
Will i be able to combine this sorting of records when working saved searches?
Meaning: I create a saved search (or what i used to call a smart list in bento). Will i then be able to show and sort just the found records within that saved search?
How to do this?

Hi Peter,
Importing Bento files should work fine on 10.10. There was one customer who emailed me the other day with a problem that it wouldn’t import, but that was because they transferred their Bento template to Dropbox and Dropbox renamed the data files that Tap Forms looks for, so it could no longer find the data within the template. Perhaps you have a similar problem?
And yes, Tap Forms will sync the Saved Searches (aka smart lists). Leo is correct. Just tap on the search button to the left of the search field on iOS when viewing a list of records. You’ll see all your saved searches listed there.

Having recently switched from Bento (importing not working under 10.10 Yosemite) to Tap Forms on both Mac and iOS, I finding that the searches I have saved on the Mac do not port over to the iPad. Is this a feature of Bento (smart collection equivalent) that doesn’t exist yet on Tap Forms? Or have I missed something?
I’ve read a lot of posts by others who would like some sort of batch edit.
Nothing fancy, just the ability to do some sort of “copy and paste” in the table view on the Mac version would be great. i.e. like a normal spreadsheet. This alone is making my transition from Bento painful.
