But what I’m doing in Bento searches all fields for each term. It will pull any instance of sultry regardless of the field, then from those choices show any instance of maniacal regardless of the field and you might see:
orton | sultry | endearing | maniacal
gillespie | driving | maniacal | sultry
kilstedt | maniacal | sultry | light
then add light to sultry maniacal to read “sultry maniacal light” and you get
kilsdtedt | maniacal | sultry | light
But what you suggest trying in Tap Forms only works using the advanced search and further filter by terms in a single field. Adding terms anywhere else draws from the entire database and adds all instances of the search term to the current search
Or so I think it works….brain full.
Hi Michael,
Thanks for the feature suggestion.
I would love to be able to offer this option. The only issue I have at the moment is that Tap Forms generates a sync file every time you tap on the upload button. In order for me to build auto-sync, I would need a way to keep the number of files generated down to a minimum. Every small change you make would generate a file that’s at a minimum about 25 KB. This is because Tap Forms does not just generate a file with only the change you’ve made. It creates a database file with the entire structure of the main database but containing only the data for the changes that you made. So imagine you change one character in a field name or value, Tap Forms generates a 25 KB sync file for that small change, sends it to your other devices and they auto-sync. Eventually Tap Forms is going to consume a lot of your iCloud storage. So putting the initiation of the sync process in the hands of the user reduces the amount of sync files that Tap Forms generates since it’s most likely that you’ll only initiate sync after you’ve made a bunch of changes.
I know there are other strategies that I could use such as delayed syncing after a period of time or after a certain number of changes, but that’s not an ideal situation.
Also, the more sync files there are in iCloud, the longer it takes new devices to auto-sync when they have iCloud sync initially enabled. You can always do a Reset iCloud Sync function at any time which will delete all the sync files to clear up space. But then you just need to re-initiate sync from your device to start the process all over again. There’s also timing of syncs to make sure Tap Forms doesn’t try syncing during long running processes such as importing thousands of records from a CSV file or importing a Bento template in the Mac version.
So there’s lots of things to think about how to make a full auto-sync system.
Thanks,
Brendan
This was brought up before but I don’t remember it this can or will be implemented in Tap Forms. What I want is demonstrated in the link below using Bento. Since Bento is no longer supported, I have high hopes for Tap Forms to offer this function but was it decided that this would or would not ever be implemented?
My request is to be able to search all fields with multiple terms to show results that reveal entries that meet all the terms.
My search entries in the linked video are as follows:
–No search criterea, all entries displayed.
–Search to filter results:
—orton
—orton + sombre
—orton + sombre + odd
—orton
—orton + curiosity
—orton + curiosity + driving
—orton + curiosity
—orton + curiosity + gentle
–delete all to reveal all entries
I remember discussion that said it would slow down search speed. I wonder if it would ever be a choice for the user.
Hi Brendan,
I’m a fresh new Tap Forms user, and I’m facing difficulties with the Form Edit Panel.
I can’t freely change the sorting keys and display the wished fields in the record column on the left.
As Jean-François, I imported a Bento DB and I can’t display other fields than creation and modification dates.
Even with your example form, impossible to change the displayed fields.
The screen shot shows some other bugs:
Fields to include: 2-3-4-5-5 instead of 1-2-3-4-5 ?
The 4th and 5th fields don’t display correctly and can’t be specified.
And my sorting choices don’t appear in the main screen…
As a new user, have I missed something?
Thanks for your help and thanks for the promising alternative to Bento.
Patrice

Hi Curt,
Yes, this is due to a limitation of the demo version. You can store a maximum of 15 records in the entire database. However, for the Bento template importer, I still allow one record to be imported from that template even if you’ve gone over the 15 record limit.
Thanks,
Brendan
Hi, I just tried importing a Bento database of several hundred records, using the demo of Tapforms. It only successfully imported a handful of records – 1 record apiece for five forms, and 10 records for a sixth form. Is this because the demo is limited, or is it because the import failed? I wasn’t able to find any information on how the demo might be limited.
My database has a lot of mp3s and relationships, since it tracks rehearsal recordings for recording projects.
I just swopped over from Bento and am missing one feature I used religiously. I have an art gallery and would like to be able to search by images. In Bento I had the images in grid view. Is that possible in Tap Forms?
Thanks for the quick reply. Basically what I did was export bento data into excel. From there I combined the 4-5 different address fields into one cell. From there I imported data via a CSV file. Every single address is showing null. I have tried to convert to text, then back to location but the same result (null). When I click the address it just shows my current location.
Like I said, I know you get multiple feature requests, but I would be willing to pay you to see multiple smart search lists populate the map ;)

I have transferred a database from Bento and am having problems setting up a link-to-form relationship. I have a form called ‘Garden plants’ which includes a field called ‘Source’ which is currently a Pick List. I have a second form called ‘Nurseries’ which lists the source names. The first field is a Link-to-form/Many to Many with ‘Garden plants’ as the form to link to. My aim is to link each plant to the nursery that it came from so I can then go to the Nurseries form and see which plants I have bought from each nursery but the link is not working. What am I doing wrong? Is having the Pick List the problem? Thanks
Dear Brendan,
I am using your product on iPhone, iPad and Mac with great pleasure, coming from Bento. However I have an issue with the iOs versions. I cannot have the autocorrect function built in iOs to work when editing a note field for instance. I am working with french input.
Any advice?
Thanks a lot in advance,
And congratulation for your work,
Kind regards,
Laurent
Thanks for taking care of the disappearing data after sync bug. But I was just entering more data, then did a sort, and most of the data disappeared. I reentered, sorted, it disappeared. Maybe it’s a leftover bug from weeks ago. One column of data was jumbled (probably from typing into one record and having the data appear in another). I fixed the erroneous data, then sorted. That’s when my new data disappeared. Last semester I was missing student grades, and I thought it was my fault. Now I suspect TapForms. I will not repeat myself about testing before releasing. I’m sure I’m not the only one trying to use this for serious work. If my DVD collection was on here and a few came up missing, no big deal, but I keep records in a database because I need reliable access to them. Bento had its faults, but I never lost anything.
Hello Faith,
Sure, I have a writeup about importing Bento templates in the online documentation:
http://www.manula.com/manuals/tap-zapp/tap-forms-mac/2.0/en/topic/bento-template-importer
Thanks!
Brendan
Hi,
I have several simple Bento databases, and I need step by step directions for importing my info into Tapforms. I went to “Import Bento Template” in the File Menu in Tapforms, but I don’t know how to access my Bento files. Can you post simple directions for Dummies?
Thank you,
Faith Shabat
Hi,
Still exploring TapForm. I did an import from Bento and I get a record column on the left that displays the creation and modification dates for each record. This doesn’t provide much value. I see that other form examples (like “My movie library”) allow the display of other fields (like movie title and author). How can I select the entries I would like to display in the left column?
Thanks!
Hi, just realizing that importing my 5000 contacts from Bento will make me lose their address. Quite weird! So why can I import the address field via csv import, and not when importing a backup file from bento?
Thanks.
