Works for me Brandon. Thanks so much for the prompt reply. Bento was never like this.
Is there a way to do a “starts with” advance search with Tap Forms as there was in Bento’s advance find?
I’ll toss in my experience. I have about 13000 records each having about 30 fields of various kinds (but not very heavy in media). These used to reside in Bento 1, 2, 3, and 4. Bento was really chunky, if not coagulated, with this record set. After bringing these into TF and taking advantage of some more efficient form organization, I can report far faster response (with TF) on my old chunky 2007 iMac. Superb performance on our modern macbook air. You should be fine with a growing recipe collection, in my opinion.
I’ve split your question to a new topic because it has nothing to do with the topic you posted it to.
Tap Forms does support importing the Bento RelatedData field type as long as you export your template and include all of your related forms in the same template export.
What it doesn’t support is the Simple List field type, which is what your screenshot looks like.
Thanks!
Brendan
Hi I have been looking into purchasing your Apps for Mac, iPhone and iPad. I currently use Bento for a recipe collection and am aware I need to move. Each record is a recipe and has various fields which I can search for e.g. ingredients, month, vegetarian, course, kids, etc. If it is from a magazine I scan it and have the PDF file link in the record. I currently have 1,638 recipes and a massive pile to add!
Q1 How big can I go with Tap forms (I seem to remember Bento could go to 10 or 20,000?)
Q2 Will I be able to link PDF files to the record? I don’t do the thing were you can see the PDF in the record, I just double click and the PDF opens. Sorry if that isn’t very technical, I don’t know the lingo!
Thanks
Hi Brendan,
Wondering if you have any advice for bringing in related data fields from Bento (please see attached). It appears that tap forms doesn’t have a similar field-type, so anything that was in a related data field simply didn’t transfer over at all and there is a blank space appearing.
Thanks!! Appreciate it:)

Hi
I’m currently re-building a database in tap forms, which I used with bento. Most of the things work pretty good or even better.
One thing I haven’t found so far is a way to display a calculated field from a linked form in my main form. In the attached screenshot, I have an example from my Bento file.
Basically I have a calculated field in my main form which is called “Anzahl Aufgaben” (Number of tasks). The calculation is in the form Operation | Form | Field, in this case I have the count of values in the field Titel in the related Aufgaben Library.
Is it possible to do this with tap forms, and if so, how?
Thank you for your help
Christian

Folks
Thanks so much for the help. It bodes well that theres this sort of support. The thing I really disliked about Bento was its lack of cloud sync, it also wasn’t a true relational database. So i’m pleased to discover Tap forms.
Ive got to the bottom of it I think. I believe when I first installed ios8 on my ipad I inadvertently enabled icloud drive. due to problems with a few apps I reverted to ios7 during the short window when you could but of course the damage was done. Ive installed the yosemite beta and ios8 again and Tap forms sync seems to be working as it should. Ill come back if there are any further problems.
Thanks again for the trouble
Stephen
Try to upgrade to ios8 and make sure you “do NOT upgrade to iCloud drive”
1. Make sure all devices are using the same iCloud account.
2. Delete all prior sync by clicking “reset iCloud sync” on every device
3. Then go to each device and “enable iCloud sync”….. Do just one device first and WAIT until that device appears on the devices list on your other devices. Once it does enable the next device (do not click the sync button yet)
4. Once you see all your devices listed out on all your devices as enabled sync devices…. Then go to the device where your main data is and hit sync. Depending on your data size and Internet speed, you will have to wait, then wait some more…. Maybe 10-15min… Eventually you should see rows and columns syncing into your empty devices, again it could take a bit of time to finish.
5. Once finished future syncs are a snap.
That’s it, welcome to tap forms… A newer, cleaner, smarter and more powerful database then bento… Offering lots of support too ;-)
Thanks so much for your response! We will get back to that.
Wanted to ask you a more important question as we get our system up and running from Bento:
Can Tap Forms do calculations? For example, when we brought over our product inventory to Tap Forms, there are now entries for each day data was inputted. We need all products with their current inventory to calculate and show, like in the attached screen shot. This way we know when we need to reorder products, etc.
Please let us know what we can do as a solution. Thanks!!!

Thanks for all of your help so that we can get this system up-and-running!
Wanted to ask if you have a feature that resembles the smart lists in Bento? In our address book, we indicate which programs clients participate in with a drop down menu. Then, based on the programs selected in the address book, smart lists are generated that contain all the participants in each program.
Please let us know if and how this would be possible.
Thanks!
Good to hear – it’s the only thing keeping me using Bento.
Are we talking “soon” — or “next year”?
I did the same thing. Went to my backup MBP with Mavericks and installed Bento there. I exported my important libraries and imported them back into a fresh DB in Yosemite. Seems to work but I didn’t import everything back in.
I double hmmm…. you :-) because it should import location data. I wrote code to do that. It should just show the longitude and latitude values in the records.
If you send me an example Bento template you’re working with, I can give it a try here.
Thanks,
Brendan
If you create a “New Library Folder” in Bento and put all of your Bento libraries into that folder, then click on the folder, you can export that as a template. It will include all of the included forms into the same template export. Tap Forms knows about this structure and it will create a new Category with the name of the Library Folder from Bento and put all of your forms inside of it.
So it may be possible to do what you want because Tap Forms keeps track of all of the forms that it’s importing as part of the entire set of forms. It should be able to re-establish the links to all the records that way.
Thanks!
Brendan
