Hi Brendan. Thank you for your fine work on Tap Forms. I purchased your product for Mac, iPad and iPhone in hopes of replacing Bento.

I am a minister and use Tap Forms for coordinating the content of our church’s worship services throughout the year. The liturgical content for each week comes from various other tables containing the hymns, versicles, Bible readings, sermon plans, choirs, etc., for each date. In the past I would “load” my Bento database from these other tables by pasting them into the table view of Bento.

The ability to add content to Tap Forms in this same way would be a great blessing to me and allow Tap Forms to fully replace Bento. Without it, my purchase of Tap Forms doesn’t meet my needs. Please accept this as encouragement in your efforts to support table view copy and paste.

I am eager and hopeful to see you succeed soon.

    Hi there,

I finally jumped from the burning wreck that was Bento to Tap Forms on my iMac and so far I love it. My database transferred flawlessly and in no time I had the layout sorted. But now I’m having problems with new fields. I can create them just fine, for example, a calculation field to count the number of checks. It works in default layout, but when I try to add the new field to a layout, it places a web address field or check mark, or some other field there that seems to be linked to existing fields on other layouts. I’ve tried it on a new form and it worked OK, until I added more fields. I’ve probably missed something and I’m still learning the program, but I’d be very grateful for any light you could shed on this.
    Thanks

    Greetings,
I’m beginning to realize that my online brokerage account options (from Fidelity) are very robust and do a very good job of “tracking holdings and sales”. The only reason I used Bento in the past was because there were some “family accounts” that don’t automatically pop up when I log in to Fidelity. I was tracking them on my own. Now that Bento support is history it looks like I’ll be using a combination of accessing my own account(s), via online methods … plus Tap Forms for the other family accounts (once I learn how to master creating the “Saved Searches” that Brendan spoke about in his Jan 20th reply #12756 above. Anyway — that’s my plan of attack.

What other ways do you suggest tracking holdings and sales other than using Bento? Thanks for the help.

Hi all – new user here. Bought Tap Forms from the Apple App Store yesterday, but have run into trouble straight away – almost certainly user error.
I’ve dropped an email to the support address, but thought I’d copy it here too, just in case anyone’s come across the same problem…

I’ve been looking for a replacement for Bento for some time, and found Tapforms today. I’ve done the following, and somewhere along the line, something’s gone wrong, as the program just hangs.

Apple Macbook Pro / OSX 10.9.5 / 2.4Ghz Intel Core i7 / 8GB Ram, plenty of hard drive space

Purchased Tapforms from the Apple App store
    Deleted all the supplied forms
Deleted all categories, leaving just ‘Uncategorised’
Created new category : ‘DVD & Bluray’
    Closed program
Came back to it later, and clicked ‘+’ to create new form.
Got spinning beach ball, and after a few mins, issued ‘Force Quit’
    Restart, repeat, get same thing.
Uninstall prog by dragging to trash. Empty trash, restart Mac.
Reinstall from App Store. Program installs as I left it, i.e. My defined category and no standard forms, rather than a ‘clean install’.
Try to create new form – get the beach ball again.

I’ve uninstalled / reinstalled three times, but in each case, I get back to the position I was in when the problems started, rather than a ‘factory fresh’ state. I’m assuming that if I can get back to this state, then I’ll be able to create custom forms.

Any idea how I might do this, and more importantly, what I need to avoid doing in order to not screw it up again?

Update : since the above, I’ve grabbed ‘AppCleaner’ and used that to uninstall, but I’m still getting the same result. Left the beachball spinning while I went out, in case it took a while, but I’ve just come home – still spinning after 2 hours!

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    DSP

Many thanks Brendan. The switch and hyperlinks will be really useful.

Hyperlinking with DEVONthink could be a good selling point for Tap Forms since, as far as I am aware, it can handle and display data in ways that DEVONthink cannot. There has in the past been some discussion on the DEVONthink forums re links with Filemaker (far too expensive) and Bento (now unsupported). I’m working on my thesis at present and Tap Forms fills a gap I had in my workflow system with DEVONthink, Nisus Writer Pro, and Bookends.

Can I also respectfully suggest that you put your own website address in Tap Forms ‘Help’ menu so that we can easily access your Blog and the Forum?

    Hi,
New to Tap Forms and really delighted with it. Transferring from Bento was a breeze. Synching with my Air was straightforward too but have not managed to do so with my iPad yet. Is it possible to select which forms can be sent to iPad or must they all?

I have been setting up a new database, and to achieve the best of both worlds, have been trying to create links to pdfs, documents, photos, maps, etc. held in a DEVONthink database. I’ve found it possible to use ‘Create Item Link’ in DEVONthink and paste it into a Website field in Tap Forms. However, I seem to need to create a new field for each individual item (each pdf, doc, etc.).

Is there a better way to link DEVONthink items or indeed folders, or could multiple items be held within a single field, as with File Attachments?

    Excellent software Brendan!

Hey Brendan, any plans to add Calendar integration in Tap Forms? I remember in Bento was you could create a date in a work order (for example) and it would populate in iCal. It was useful for scheduling jobs etc.

Thanks and keep up the great work.

    Thanks for your reply Brendan.

    1) I didn’t see the sync button on the bottom of the app. Maybe in future versions the sync button could be optionally moved to the top toolbar? Even better, have it prompt for a sync upon exit of the program?

    2) Being able to encrypt certain certain forms in an awesome feature. Thank you! To enhance this it would be great if when you selected an encrypted form, the keyboard focus would automatically land in the password field to quickly unlock the form.

    3) The command-shift-f is an awesome work around. Thanks for that. I totally understand what you’re saying about the real-time filtering – it can really slow things down, especially on IOS. When searching I noticed that if for example you have two forms named “car mileage” and “car maintenance” in different categories, and do a search for “car”, only the first form is highlighted. It would be nice if all forms were highlighted.

These are of course minor things and I think you’re doing an awesome job with Tap Forms. I’m excited that it is under active development (unlike Bento R.I.P.) and in my opinion has surpassed Bento in some ways while including features that I always wished Bento had. I’m looking forward to the next update.

    Thanks again Brendan!

    Hi Brendan,

I just tried the demo and have finally ditched Bento and bought all three apps. I love how you have evolved the program, but was wondering if I could make some suggestions to streamline the workflow?

    1) Autosync to the cloud on start/exit. Right now there seems to be a two-click process to sync to the cloud. If it can’t be done automatically, maybe a single button process or keyboard shortcut?

    2) Encrypt only forms that require privacy, instead of the whole database. This way you don’t have to to enter a password each time you want to access non-private information.

    3) Move the “Find Forms” field to the top, and have it search as you type while hiding forms that don’t fit your criteria. This would make it easier to find and a more logical location.

Thanks Brendan, keep up the excellent work!

    Hi Michelle,

Bento is not a sandboxed app, so I guess it worked for them. But in Tap Forms there are security issues due to it running as a sandboxed app (which is a requirement for selling on the Mac App Store). However, if you’re good with Unix, you may be able to create a soft-link to the TapForms_db.sqlite file in your Dropbox account. However, I wouldn’t really recommend it and I have not tried it.

I am working on a proper Dropbox sync implementation though as an alternative to iCloud sync.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

I have been storing my Bento database on Dropbox and directing my various devices to that shared database. Could I do something similar with TapForms?

Yes, Bento did have this feature, but Tap Forms does not. It’s on my to-do list though.

You’d have to export your email addresses and then copy them from the resulting CSV file in order to email to them.

I use TF as a membership database. When I had Bento if I wanted to email all of our members I would just highlight all email addresses and then click “email selected addresses”. I’ve searched through the forum for a while but can’t find anything about how to do this. Can someone please help?

    Thanks

    Richard
