    Hey Brendan,

I was wondering if you were working on a fix for Tap Forms 5 once Rosetta 2 is discontinued, or will it just be unusable? Initially when you announced Tap Forms Pro you had stated that TF 5 would continue to work. How will this impact users who own TF 5? Will they be forced to upgrade to TF Pro or move to another app?

    Hi Karen,

Tap Forms Pro is fully Apple Silicon native. Tap Forms 5 is not due to some third party libraries it uses.

    So the options are:

    1. Upgrade to Tap Forms Pro where all the new features are.
    2. Stay at macOS 27 (I think it’s macOS 28 where it’s going away).
    3. Switch to a different app.

    The choice is yours.

And yes, I did say that Tap Forms 5 would continue to work, but that was before I found out Rosetta was going away. Even Tap Forms 3.5 still works with Rosetta and that app hasn’t been updated in about a decade.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

Another option: You could create a virtual machine that runs macOS27 and then only run apps in there that still need Rosetta2. That’s what I’ll be doing for some of the apps that will not be upgraded for one reason or another. I already do this for a few apps that are 32-bit and no longer work on 64-bit platforms.

    Cheers, Daniel

Thanks Brendan. I’ve subscribed to TF Pro on my iPad, I’m just trying to decide which, if any, of the DB’s I haven’t migrated from TF5 are worth it. If TF5 were going to be operable, it’d be a non-issue. So, I’ll take some time with them and see what I want to put my effort into. As for my iMac, I’m just not ready to commit to the subscription only because I’m not sure I need those extra features.

Daniel, thank you as well. I have 2 iMacs. One is brand spanking new(a lovely gift from my hubs and kids for Mother’s Day) and a 2017 iMac. I could continue to run TF5 on that one. So here’s a question. Will TF5 continue to work on newer iPads once Rosetta 2 is discontinued? I tend to do the majority of my work from my iPad, but it is nice to be able to work from my iMac too.

Rosetta is not an issue on iPad. It’s just not even a thing. So Tap Forms 5 is already natively running on the A/M series chips on iOS.

Great software, but I’m disappointed by the forced move to a subscription model and the lack of a native version for TF5 users. We need a perpetual license option for Apple Silicon.

    Hi Antonio,

Thanks for your concerns. As I mentioned in the email replies I sent you, it’s something I’m considering.

    Thanks,

    Brendan
