    Hi,
I have been using TF5 for about 7 years and finally got over the learning curve… I have built several very detailed databases with links to document folders on my computer. I am very pleased with what I’ve built and I hesitant to move it over to TF Pro for fear of messing it up. But with the upcoming Mac update looming where Rosetta will not be supported I am looking at my options and have questions:

If I migrate to TFPro will my links to my folders still work without resetting them up, again. (My new computer upgrade lost them all am I am just restoring them all…)
Is my data in my databases all still on my computer and not in the cloud ? (I work just on a new Mac mini and do not want to , or have a need to sync data to other devices. )
Can my current database set up be dropped into/ made into a ‘pretty’ new custom version without having to create each field by hand ?
I have watched the TFPro migration video on YouTube, is it really that easy ???

I would be interested in hearing other forum members experiences with their migration from 5 to Pro.

    Many thanks.

    Hi CG,

So I just did a test to migrate a document from Tap Forms 5 to Tap Forms Pro that had a File Attachment field in it which contains an alias to a folder.

Unfortunately it didn’t migrate it directly.

However, I did find out that if you right-click on the Tap Forms 5 .tapforms document and select “Show Package Contents”, then you’ll see an Attachments folder in there. You can then copy the contents of that Attachments folder to your clipboard (command-c), then right-click on the Tap Forms Pro .tfpro document created after the migration, you can then paste the contents of the clipboard (command-v) then that will copy the folder attachments to Tap Forms Pro and you shouldn’t have to re-create them. I just tested that and it did work. It’s just the archive process in Tap Forms 5 doesn’t include any links to folders and the import process in Tap Forms Pro doesn’t re-create them either. But it is possible to do it manually. It only takes a few seconds to do, especially if it’s just a one-time thing. Sorry that wasn’t automated.

Other than that, yes, the migration from Tap Forms 5 is as easy as it is in the video.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Hello Brendan,
Thank you for your quick response.

Will data in tables migrate with the main database?

    My other questions:

Is my data in my databases all still on my computer and not in the cloud ? (I work just on a new Mac mini and do not want to , or have a need to sync data to other devices. )

Can my current database set up be dropped into/ made into a ‘pretty’ new custom version without having to create each field by hand ?

Yes, Table fields will also migrate. Just use the Send to Tap Forms Pro function as in my demo video and that’ll do everything for you (aside from the attachment aliases issue above).

Yes, all data is stored locally on your devices. Not in the cloud unless you enable iCloud, Cloud+, or Dropbox sync.

Well, you still have to tell Tap Forms what fields you want. Or you can import from a library of pre-defined form templates you can install from the Template Library. Or you can use the new “Create Form with Fields” function which will use AI to generate a form for you based on the form title and optionally a description.
