And now you are going to a subscription model. Syncing has always been broken and I have lost a lot of work because of it. Now you are going to abandon Tap Forms 5 without ever fixing it or adding new features. A $50 app becomes $50/year and the pro version probably won’t ever get upgrades either.

I will of course be upgrading the Pro version with new features as I build them. This way I can release the features as I complete them without having to hold anything back for a bigger upgrade from now on. It will be much better for me and much better for my customers.

What specific features were you looking for that I didn’t include in Tap Forms Pro?

You never added features to Tap Forms 5 in 5 years even though you promised them in blog posts and change notices all along. Why would a customer believe you are going to do differently in the pro version? I would have been happy if you just fixed the synching system.

If I may offer a contrasting perspective on the recently introduced subscription format, despite its imperfections, I believe that Tap Forms stands out as an exceptional database management software for Mac, surpassing even the exorbitantly priced FMP in value for the money. Considering the substantial effort and dedication invested in its development, the yearly license subscription fee of $50 appears remarkably reasonable in comparison to the comprehensive features and capabilities offered by Tap Forms Pro or Tap Forms 5.

Do you have a road map of the new things you’d like to implement in Tap Forms Pro, within the next twelve months? I’m ok with the subscription model if I know I’ll regularly get new features. Otherwise, this becomes a licensing fee.

Quicken does it, for example. Every year (twice a year I think) we get an email that explaines the general direction where they’ll be pushing development in the next year (like “This year, reporting will be updgraded with more ways to customize grouping”, etc). There are threads to ask for new features and users can vote for the things they want the most. For example, we got Tags a few months ago, and reordering of the accounts in the general view.

I think this would be useful in deciding whether to get a subscription or not.

A roadmap is a good idea. I was planning on writing up one soon. But I’m not going to commit to a specific schedule of releases. Features and fixes will be released when they’re ready.

Well I have no problem paying the subscription fee. I mean, who can work for free?

    Let’s see what happens.

I do like the tags feature!!
