    Hi,
I was happy to see there are still updates for the old version.
    Yesterday I’ve updated from 4.0.7 to 4.0.8.

But: I’ve a complex table, independant of which field I edit, TapForm crashes !
    Done so far:
    – Created a backup and restored, without success
    – App deleted and backup restored, 3-4 times I was able to edit a field, after it crashes again
    – deleted all values from the table and created a new recordset, crashes !

The value I edit will be saved, but the app crashes.

Using an iPhone 8 Plus with iOS 13.1.2

I’ve no idea how you are able to troubleshoot this issue ?

For me this table is a very important one, which is in use daily.
With these crashes it makes no fun any longer.

If there’s a possibility to go back to 4.0.7, I’m ok with it.

    Hi Marcus,

Can you please email me the form template you’re using so I can examine it to try and reproduce the crashing?

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Hi Brendan,
    just sent
    What I’ve just found out:
By deleting all photo fields as test it doesn’t crash any longer (so far).
So it seems to be an issue related to photos !

    Thanks in advance
    Marcus

    Hi Marcus,

Interesting. I tested your template last night before I went to sleep and I did experience one crash right when I tapped the Save button in one of the fields. I forget which one. But this morning when I try again, I haven’t been able to make it crash at all in the old version of Tap Forms. And I haven’t changed your template at all. So I didn’t remove the photo fields.

I’m not sure what’s causing this problem. One other customer told me about this issue too. But it’s tricky if I can’t reproduce the crash and find out where in my code it’s crashing.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Hi Brendan,
first of all, thanks for taking care.
It seems to be really tricky.

I‘ve just deleted the app, re-installed it and restored a last backup.

    Until now, no crash.
    Probably tomorrow again…

    btw.:
I added some records in the blank template with photos as well.
I am able to export all values (a .zip will be generated).
When I unzip it, the app crashes as well.

btw., why there isn‘t a TapForms 5 Lite version available ?
It would be helpful to decide if it‘s worth to update.

4.0.9 is released already by the way.

And there’s no Lite version 5 because the Lite version 4.0 conversion rate wasn’t really worth it to have to keep maintaining. Plus there wasn’t a way to offer the version 5 upgrade discount to anyone who used the lite version purchase option. It was always better to just buy the full version to begin with. And there were so many support requests when someone moved to a different device and they had to restore their purchase. It just became too much work to justify the lite version. Sorry about that.

However, there is a free 10 day trial for Mac.

    Okay, I see.
    Unfortunately 4.0.9 crashes as well.

And this happens right when you tap the Save button? I tried it a bunch of times but wasn’t able to reproduce it in 4.0.9. Maybe I’m not following the same path as you. I simply created a new record, tapped on a bunch of the fields and entered in a value into them. Tapped the Save button and went on to the next field. I didn’t enter data into every field as your form had a lot of fields in it.

I don’t have an iPhone 8 Plus though to test it on. I did test on my son’s iPhone 6s and on my iPhone X and iPhone 11 Pro though.

    Unzipping should no longer crash.

    It is hard to reproduce.
After reinstall the app and importing the form
I had not yet a crash after saving a new value.

Yesterday I restored my backup again
and was able to save a lot of recordsets.

But, suddenly it crashed again after saving.
Most of all when I add a longer text in a memo field.

In fact: When it crashes the first time it will crash
    always after.

I will try to reproduce, maybe with some recordsets as example, I could send you then a backup.

It is not iPhone 8 related, I have the same on my old iPhone 6.

Yes, if there’s a reproducible case with your document, please send the backup file that causes the crashing. Then I can most likely fix it.

    Seems to be a challenge.
I‘ve deleted all tables, except the affected.
As well deleted, all unused pick lists.

    Until now, no crash ?
I‘ll come back to you if there’s a reproducible procedure.

If you‘re looking for TapForms 5 Beta Tester…
… I‘m ready as daily hardcore user ??

    Hi Marcus,

So are you having this same problem with Tap Forms 5? Or is it just 4.0.9 that’s crashing? And what language do you run Tap Forms in? It could be a language translation issue somewhere. I’ve seen odd crashes happen only in one language but not another.

    Hi Brendan,

no, I‘ve only 4.0.9 in use.
    Language is german.

I‘m not yet sure, but I‘ve deleted some other not often used forms, until now I had no more crashes.

I can restore a full backup and switch to english, let‘s see…

Another topic I have during all my testing and backup:
An export of a form with media files (pictures) works,
but is it ok that the pictures will not be imported again ?

    Quick update:
    I‘ve restored my full backup.
    Switched to English
Edited a recordset (memo field), App crashed

    I am really frustrated.

Is there a possibility for me to test it in TapForms 5,
a beta, a restricted version or whatever ?

I‘d like to upgrade to version 5, when:

    1. if it is ensured to have not the same issue
    2. on the next price discount (can you say when this will be ?)

    Hi Marcus,

You already get a 50% discount off the upgrade to Tap Forms 5 if you use the Complete My Bundle function:

    for the iPhone version:
    https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app-bundle/tap-forms-5-upgrade-bundle/id1140801867?mt=8

    for the iPad version:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app-bundle/tap-forms-5-hd-upgrade-bundle/id1140784710?mt=8

You only need to upgrade just the one copy as Tap Forms 5 is universal now for iPhone and iPad.

So it’s the Note field that’s crashing and not the regular Text, number or other field types?

    Thanks!

    Brendan

I can confirm your file does not have the problem with Tap Forms 5. Your form causes a crash when you have at least one section heading collapsed when you edit a field value.

It also appears that it only crashes when there’s at least one Photo field in your form that’s below one of the section header fields.

So for now you can prevent the crash by leaving all your sections expanded.
