Markdown Formula Result Type

Hey Brendan,

I was excited to see the new Markdown calculation type but can’t seem to figure out how to use it. I generally know how to use Markdown but apparently not within the context of a calculation field. For example, simply setting the formula as “# Text” doesn’t format anything, nor does “**Test**”. The only documentation on this feature I saw was when opening the document after the update but I don’t know how to look at that again nor could I find a change log on the website/ formum.

Hi Shane,

If you ever want to see the What’s New screen again, you can select it from the Help menu.

Make sure you set the Result Type to Markdown.

It’s mostly just for simple things like italics and bold (for now).

Something like this would work:

"**" + [First Name] + "**"

Where [First Name] is your field token.

I feel this markdown calculation type is a step in the right direction. The default layout is nicer than anything I’ve created and it’s great to finally have some way of styling its output.

It would be cool to have an option to display the markdown styling in the single column list view, in addition to colour changes. This would make it easier to see relevant field data in this view.

I noticed though that the markdown calculation properties are the same as returning a number which doesn’t make sense. It should be returning as text if anything (see screenshot).

Also, in support of having markdown styling showing in the single column list view, currently using a Markdown affected field in this view will show the actual Markdown which is not practical. Ideally we would want a Markdown field to appear like this:

ABC Company -> New Website

will instead show:

ABC Company -> **New Website**.

I know this feature is in its infancy, but also adding bold styling via Markdown is barely noticeable. I think it’s because of the font used for the default layout.

I digress but personally I feel it would be cool to be able to employ HTML/ CSS styling to forms, but it might be too complicated for the average Tapforms user (compared to markdown) and could require a major overhaul of the layout system.
