    Dear Bredan,

    I know you’ve already answered this question, but I’d like to reiterate.

    I’ve been using your fantastic TapForms 5 for years to manage the software I use and those I’ve tried that didn’t suit me. I have about 300 records: not a huge number, but incredibly useful for me, as my memory is failing me a bit and I sometimes forget what a particular program does. I’m retired and don’t have a lot of money; so I don’t like subscriptions, but I’m willing to pay for an upgrade to an Apple Silicon version while keeping the same features.

    I haven’t seen what the PRO version would offer me, and I don’t want to (can’t) pay that much. Yes, it’s great for businesses, but for an individual, it’s a different story.

    I would like you to reconsider your position and offer us a “light” version of your PRO (with the current features) so we don’t have to completely rewrite the standard version.

    As you can see, I’m spending time writing to you and making suggestions; if I can help, I have some time, but not much money, and I think many of us are in the same boat. Perhaps you could conduct a survey, since you have all our email addresses.

    I’m sure you’ll appreciate this request;
    so, it would be fantastic if you could respond favorably.

    Thank you in advance. See you soon. Luc

    Hi Luc,

    Thanks for your feedback. Tap Forms 5 will only stop working when Apple removes Rosetta from macOS 28. So you have over a year now before that happens. And there’s no requirement for you to upgrade to macOS 28 when it’s released. Or if you already have an Intel Mac, then it’ll never stop working. But the version of the main database engine Tap Forms 5 used was discontinued and that’s one of the reasons why I rewrote the database engine using Apple’s CoreData framework. That allowed me to provide a fully Apple Silicon native version of Tap Forms. And that’s Tap Forms Pro. It took me more than a year to replace the database engine. I don’t want to have to do all that work all over again. It would not be possible to just copy and paste my code from Tap Forms Pro back into Tap Forms 5 to do that. It’s extremely complex.

    So there are technical issues that would need to be overcome. And I don’t know how long that would take. Time that I need to spend working on Tap Forms Pro now. Not to mention in order to submit a new build I need to use the latest version of Xcode and that would cause all sorts of compatibility issues that I’d need to address.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Hello Bredan,

    No, I don’t want to stay on a particular version of macOS because of one piece of software. No, I don’t want to pay such an expensive subscription.

    yes, I understand that you spent a year developing the PRO version; no, I don’t understand why you can’t disable the PRO features to make a lighter version, or else there’s a catch (as we say in France) and the PRO version is just the original version rewritten, which certainly required a lot of work.

    So unfortunately, I see that you’re not open to other suggestions, so I’m going to leave you for other, less expensive applications.

    I hope you succeed, but I have my doubts… Thank you for replying and reading. Cheers. Luc

    I’ve several applications that will stop working once Apple removes Rosetta. These applications will not see an update since the companies behind no longer are in business or support them. Still, I’d like to continue using them. So my plan is simple: I’ll have a dedicate virtual machine on my Arm Mac that will be running macOS 27. This way I can upgrade my machine to the latest release while I still have have access to these applications using my macOS 27 virtual machine. I already did this when Apple required all applications to be 64-bit.

    Cheers, Daniel
