    Hi Brendan
Recently upgraded to Big Sur 11.2.1 and I am on latest TForms. I am now getting this message when I try to launch TForms. After it quits and a bit of c’clicking around’ I can open it? Any ideas welcome.
    Thanks….

    Hi Tony,

I’ve never seen that issue before.

Do you have Tap Forms 5 properly installed into the Applications folder? Or are you launching it from within the installer disk image?

    Thanks,

    Brendan

I don’t know why you would be getting a permission error. But I don’t believe it’s a Tap Forms issue per se. I mean, I don’t think it’s due to a bug with Tap Forms or anything like that. Did you check the permissions on the app? Or try rebooting your Mac to see if that solves the problem.

TF has full disc access. Anything else I should check? Also, I know even when Home Screen (dock and desktop loaded) appears things are still loading in the background. Could it be caused by trying to load TF too quickly when permissions have not been read to the system from cold boot up? If that makes sense!?
    Cheers…

I’d try redownloading a completely new copy and see if it’s still problematic. It seems to be failing the code signing which is odd.

One other black magic thing you might try is a permission repair via Terminal:

    diskutil resetUserPermissions / $(id -u)

This has fixed issues in Big Sur we’ve run into with Microsoft Office not launching properly. Not sure if this is the same case but I don’t believe it harms anything.

Ya, a code sign issue it seems. I also suggest you re-download it as Sam suggested.

Here’s a link to download it again:

Do I need to sign TF out of iCloud first or anything else I should do. Also, do I need to trash anything at all or just install over the top?
    Cheers…

No need to sign out of iCloud.

Personally I’d likely move it out of the way and rename it to something that says broken but in reality deleting it is fine. Dropping the new one over the top should offer you to replace it which essentially deletes it for you. Since it doesn’t work, deleting it isn’t all that problematic unless you want to dig in to see if you can figure out what tripped it up.

If you reboot again without any other changes, does the app work properly?

I’m leaning more and more to there being an issue with the OS if it’s related to sleep.

    Hi
Tried this morning from fresh boot. Clicked TF dock icon first, no icon bounce. Clicked other dock icons – same non bounce. Then NO Permissions box came up again followed by all the apps in the doc I had clicked opening. I ignored the crash and the was able to open TForms. I then closed Forms, slept the computer and then reloaded TF with no problems. Here is today’s crash log. Help appreciated.
    Thanks……….

    Hi Tony,

Are you sure maybe you don’t have multiple copies of Tap Forms on your computer somewhere?

What version does it say in the Finder for this path?

Only one TF5 in apps. Details attached. To be fair, it loaded fine first thing this morning. I always shut down overnight – rightly or wrongly?
    Cheers and here’s hoping!

I never shut down my computers. Just sleep them. But that shouldn’t cause this issue.

The Code Sign error you get implies that Tap Forms is not signed properly. But that’s not the case. I digitally sign it AND notarize it via Apple’s notarization service. So Apple has approved each distribution of Tap Forms, even the direct download version. I’m thinking you’ve just got some weird things going on with your Mac because this is the first time I’ve ever heard of this issue.

    Hi Brendan
I had another app, GraphicConverter that I am testing do the same thing. Sent the crash log to them and they suggested anti virus software might be causing the problem. I am, right or wrongly, running Intego Virus Barrier. I added both TF and GC to the trusted files list in Intego VB and all seems to be good. May be helpful if others have the same problem.
    Cheers

    Hi Tony,

Oh wow! That’s interesting. I’ve never used anti-virus software on any of my Macs. Not since the dawn of macOS X at least.

But I’m glad you found a solution. Sorry I never considered that. I just don’t use that software so it never even dawned on me.

    Thanks,

It’s the same code signing error, either your disk is failing, you could have bad memory or something is interrupting it (antivirus/antimalware scanner things). I’d try removing that sort of software entirely on a clean system to see if you can reproduce the issue without that around.

Ya, it’s definitely the CodeSign error again. A CodeSign error means that the application has not been signed properly by the developer (me). However, I know that I’ve signed Tap Forms properly via Apple’s Notarization service. Plus you’re the only person that I’ve heard that is having this issue. So it’s definitely unique to your situation.

As Sam suggested, try disabling your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that works.

Maybe also try verifying the code signature using this command in the Terminal application:

    codesign --verify -v /Applications/Tap\ Forms\ Mac\ 5.app/

Then post the output here. This is what it says for me:

./Tap Forms Mac 5.app/: valid on disk
./Tap Forms Mac 5.app/: satisfies its Designated Requirement

Well then I have no idea why you’re getting this issue. Maybe you do have a virus of some sort.

Did you try with a new user account? Just to test.
