Activating Index

Hi all,

As a newbie with TapForms Pro I deactivated the index on my Mac. Unfortunately I was not successful to reactivate this option. Can you please help me?

Attached you will find the index on the iPhone.

Hi Detlev,

The Mac version doesn’t display the side index the way the iPhone does. On Mac you can turn on or off Section Headings by clicking the little menu button at the top of the records list and then select Show Sections.

Then that menu will show the index list you can select from.

Thank you very much for your swift response. That helps clarifying my struggles.

Meanwhile I transferred all data from Ninox to TapForms Pro – which means Ninox is history. There are a few things I miss, but overall it was the right decision to make TapForms the database of choice. Especially the universal layout is one of the best features I’ve ever seen.

Mainly the missing features are linked to diagrams.

To answer your question I prepared a one pager where I tried to compare both database apps.

It begins with the database model which helps to see which form is linked to another. For sure you can see it when opening the form and looking at the data fields but sometimes it helps to have the complete picture (ok, the example definitely doesn’t need this option, but in other cases it could be helpful.

I could not find an option to have stacked bars. If 2 data fields are selected one does hide the other one. I tried to change the sequence of the data fields, but same result. In the zoomed view you can see that both fields are selected correctly by the app. What you can see as well is that the dates on the x-axis are not readable. In the Ninox view you can see that only every 3rd value is shown and it is diagonal. So it is possible to read the values on the x-axis. I am fully aware that it is possible to spread the diagram with the scaling slider on top of the graph but sometimes you need the full picture including readable values. Furthermore the y-values do not correspond with the field values. The field value indicates hours and minutes while the y-values show the mathematical value.

On the line representation it is the same with the values as described above (here the y-values are shown correctly). It would be great if there is an option to switch the dots on and off (which Ninox doesn’t offer as well 😊). In addition it would be great to select the line style in an accurate or smoothed course.

The graphs in Ninox look a bit more eye-friendly. The bars have some kind of a frame which separates the single values. It is good on the line view to have the area under the line it a light color.

I know that the said above is very individual and for sure other users do have another opinion regarding the styles. This is just my 2 cents.

Hi Detlev,

I agree the charts look nicer in Ninox. That’s something I’ll work on improving for a future update.

And I like the Entity Relationship Diagram. That would be handy to have.

Hi Brendan,

Great to hear that you will work on the charts and that you like the ERD.

In my yesterday’s post I missed to point out that there are several things in TapForms Pro which are much better than in Ninox.

Furthermore I am still learning and there is a long way to go until mastering TapForms Pro. So I am pretty sure your database has tons of features that are still waiting to be revealed.
