James MolinaParticipantI would like to see Brendan produce some updated video tutorials for Tap Forms, as these videos were instrumental in my decision to purchase Tap Forms in the first place. There has not been a tutorial posted on YouTube in almost two years. I really liked them, they were very informative.
Whenever a new update for Tap Forms comes along, I often see new icons that I don’t know what their purpose is. For instance, there is a paintbrush icon that appeared in a recent update that looks like the Format Painter in Microsoft Word. What does this paint brush do? I’m always afraid I’ll make some uncorrectable error that will wipe away all the data I painstakingly put together. When you delete a form, it is gone for good. There ought to be an Undo function to prevent this from happening. There is also a padlock in the upper right hand corner that suddenly showed up in a recent update. What is the purpose of this padlock? What happens if I click it? Will it prevent me from accidentally deleting a form I put together?
Finally, a while back I tried to restore an older version of Tap Forms on my iMac, but when I searched thru Time Machine, none of the older data was restored. I am concerned that my Time Machine is not saving my Tap Form records.December 25, 2014 at 12:37 AM #12470
BrendanKeymasterHi James,
I’m very sorry for not updating the video tutorials in a very long time. I know it’s something I need to update.
I have updated most of the online manual for version 3.0, so if you look at that, it’ll tell you what the paintbrush icon does. But the text below it gives a good hint at what it’s for. Clicking on it will simply show you the Layout Inspector panel on the right. It’s not destructive.
When you delete a form, you’re prompted to make sure that you really want to do that. If you say yes, then it gets deleted permanently.
There are a couple of padlock icons in Tap Forms Mac. One is for locking the app if you have your database encrypted. The other is for locking a layer in the Layout Inspector panel. If you have an object selected in your layout, clicking on the checkbox under the padlock icon will lock that layer and prevent it from being moved around on your custom layout.
Tap Forms stores its database file here:
~/Library/Containers/com.tapforms.mac/Data/Documents
The file is called TapForms_db.sqlite and Time Machine should be backing up that file.
Hope that answers your questions ok.
Thanks!
Brendan
