mrbillParticipantHello Tapforms Community- I am a longtime filemaker pro and Bento user.
I run a business and really don’t want to play with my database much. I just want to use it.
When Filemaker killed Bento, I switch to Filemaker. BIG MISTAKE! I spent way too much time managing filemaker and too little time getting work done.
I gave TapForms a whirl and am very very happy I did. I thought I’d be put off by the lack of ability to create a layout… ya know what… I really like not having to worry about layout. Ends up, it was like candy in my database diet… unhealthy and non needed.
Now, after a whopping 20 min to get my huge bento data to Tapforms, I’m working again. It just works! This is compared to wrangling Filemaker for over 20hrs and it still didn’t do what I wanted.
I’m a happy new TapForms user.

BrendanKeymasterHi Bill!
Thanks very much for giving Tap Forms a try.
However, in a future update for the Mac, I will have a layout engine. But the good news is that’s optional. The default layout that you see now will still be there. You’ll just be able to add new layouts to your form as you wish. Development of that feature is coming along nicely, but I still have a ton more work to do on it, so don’t expect it soon.
Thanks!
Brendan

mrbillParticipantSounds good. I can imagine that is a major undertaking, but it will really propel TapForms to being a premier simply effective database on the Mac. Best of luck.
Question, When I create a ‘Linked Form’ Field, I was hoping it would let me choose data from an existing form, but it only gives me the option to enter new data into the linked form. Did I make a mistake?
Example: I create a project manager form. I add a ‘Linked Data’ field that links to my contact manager. I’d like to populate the linked form inside the project manager form with relevant contacts from the Contacts form. Hope this makes sense. Is this possible? If not, consider it a feature request :^)
Thanks!

BrendanKeymasterHi Bill,
You would need to change the Link Type to “Many to Many” to be able to select records from a previously created form.
Thank!
Brendan

mrbillParticipantThanks Brendan- Sorry for the question, but where are you accessing ‘Many to Many’? I don’t see the option. If I create a new field, choose link to form (I don’t see link to many), and choose the form, Link Type has nothing next to it. What am I doing wrong?
Thx.

BrendanKeymasterCan you please email me a screenshot of what you’re seeing? Link Type should be there. There are two choices. One to Many and Many to Many.

mrbillParticipantHappy to help… Just sent it to the support email box.
Thx.

BrendanKeymasterAs a followup to this thread, with Bill’s help, I’ve determined that this appears to be a bug in Lion. The Link type options “Many to Many” and “One to Many” do not show up for some reason. They show up just fine on Mountain Lion.
Thanks,
Brendan
