v5 is a big disappointment:
Mac-iOS sync: very complex process to set up WiFi sync. Once it is set up, it does not work. Create a record on OSX it syncs to IOS — but create a record on IOS it does not sync to OSX. I am certain I’ve configured sync correctly. Sync never worked with v3 and now it doesn’t work with v5. Ugh. I am not going to start experimenting with a service I’ve never heard of (“Cloudent”) and give them my credit card info just to be disappointed with that.
Watch app: the apple Watch app refuses to load the new v5 watch app onto my watch. Ugh.
I signed up for Cloudant syncing — it seems pretty fast and does not require a credit card. You are only charged by Cloudant if you use more than $50 in services a month and at a dollar a gig per month you are not likely to run over unless you have very large databases.
Hi Larry,
as you can see in the Pricing Model: https://cloudant.com/product/pricing/
“A credit card is required after the 30 day trial period is over”
So you have to give your data away :-(
I’ve been using it for over 6 months and have never put in a credit card.
I did give my credit card, I trust IBM, though they never asked me for it because I have never reached minimun 50 $ usage. Attached you can see the report for last month, daily and a continuous usage syncing four devices, iPhone, iPad, Mac mini and a MacBook. 11 database documents about 25 or 30 Mb. each one.
