Updating of layout delays

I am having quite a few screen updating issues and delay. Plus changes of color or not changing.

One issue i can easily describe is with check mark fields. Using the two attached images. One shows the check marks with a light grey tick in a slightly darker box (As i am unable to change any of the display properties for a check mark I have added a darker grey box round all three). if I then open and close the Layout Inspector they change to blue. If I then change the record they return to the greys. This happens when i have use the form in the single and multi column list views. One other anomaly that sometimes happens to the layout is that the Check marks stop updating to reflect a new record, other fields do change. I have to open and close the DB.

The other update issues involve layout changes. Sometimes the change ie colour dos not take effect till either after a 20 to 60 second delay or not at all and i have to change to another layout or close the DB. Other random issues are things like rearraging columns in multi list view. (drag to rearrange does not move columns, yet other field in the same DB do re-arrange.

Hi Steve,

When you’re in layout edit mode, the checkmark controls are in a disabled state. That’s why they turn to grey. And when the layout inspector is dismissed, they use their system’s accent colour.

The multi-column list view fields arrangement is done in a different place. Click the little table dot dot dot button at the top-left of the multi-column list view. That’s were you can choose the order of the fields to display in the list. You can show or hide and rearrange the field columns there.

They are still grey sometimes when not in layout mode. Especially if i change to another record, they turn grey and stay grey as i change records. I can only get them to return to the accent colour by entering layout edit mode then exiting it. As soon as i change records they go grey. Plus as you can see from the screen shot the white background does not always cover the full area (added later – a little while later as i was just looking at the screen the white background suddenly just jumped and filled the design area). In the second screenshot i just entered and exited Layout mode The Third screen shot shows what happens as soon as i change records.

In regards to Moving columns in the Multi view what does the last screen (Drag to rearrange) do? On one DB this box moved some columns in multi view and not others?

there was no activity by me on the computer i was just sitting there having a drink of coffee.

It’s possible sync kicked in and Tap Forms filled out the rest of the layout area. Do you have the Screen setting enabled?

Also, you seem to be missing the Default Layout. That’s odd.

the Default layout is not missing but its name is missing see attached screen shot.

Not sure what you mean by ‘Screen setting enabled’ I have sync on set to iCloud and it is working well and reliable

That’s very weird. If you quit and re-launch, does it show up again?

By screen I meant the “Design For” setting on the layout inspector.

Looks like it was corrupt datebases.All my backups from initial conversion to pro exhibited the same issues. So I archived the V5 DBs and started again and it appears that most of the issues have gone

Forgot to add. The screen redrawing is still present. I think it is after the sync timer delay of 15 seconds. It then redraws and fills out the layout background after the Inspectors have been closed.

I’ve just fixed the issue with the custom layout area not redrawing after you dismiss the inspector panels.

This issue with updating just caused major issues with records ending up all over the DB.

I was adding 6 new books to my database, which a few minutes later i noticed were not with the other records of the same book series. What was happening was that the record table above the entry form at the bottom of the view were getting out of sync and the focus jumped from the layout form to the table view without me noticing as i was typing. This resulted in me typing say the series No into the Author name.I had entered the Author name then clicked in the series number field. However this update delay happened before i typed in the number and the focus was now in the table Author Field so I overtyped the author with the Series number. hence the record ended at another part of the table. This happened on at least 5 occasions with different fields, where I selected a layout field (A) entered the data, selected another layout field (B) but before i typed in layout field (B) the update of table Field (A) happened and the focus was now on table Field (A) into which I now typed what i Thought I was typing into layout Field (B). This has obviously happened before without me noticing as in looking for error records I found others that I had entered some days ago and they where messed up in similar ways. This makes this app unreliable when entering multiple new records in Multi column list view but using a form at the bottom. This is the method I always used with previous versions on Tapforms but never had any issues. I dont mind the actual delay (would prefer if it was nothing there) however the Moving of filed focus from the Layout form to list view and changing the focus field need fixing.

Just been looking at this issue to see if i could change something to improve it. I have a question why does the list view update on sync not on a “Lost Focus” or “Return key Press event”
