Shawn BerthelParticipantHello Brendan,
I just updated TapForms, and after attempting to click my file in the program to open (password protected), a popup message says “Error opening database file – unimplemented.” The password screen behind it says “Invalid Password”. I know that the password is not invalid, its a pretty easy password. Have I just shot myself in the foot? Did I render this database useless? I have 105 accounts on that database. I’d like not to reenter them all again.
Thanks for the help.
Shawn
P.S.: No, I did not backup the database before updating. It didn’t even cross my mind. I was anticipating integration.

BrendanKeymasterHi Shawn,
Sorry for this issue. It was a build issue. I submitted the 5.2.10 update to correct it.
If you’ve got the direct download version you can already get it by choosing the Check for Updates function in the Tap Forms menu.
Your data is still there.
If you want to transition to the direct download version to get the update right now, just download the Mac version 5 free trial from here:
https://vendors.paddle.com/download/product/503174
Thanks,
Brendan

Steve RomanoParticipantI have the same issue as Shawn. I have the Apple Store version. When will the Apple store version be updated to fix the problem? If I use the direct download how will that effect my apple store version in the future?
Thanks

BrendanKeymasterHi Steve,
The Mac App Store version was already updated yesterday.
Thanks,
Brendan

Timothy WrightParticipantHi,
I hate to be a problem maker but I, too, have upgraded and lost access to my databases. Also, as far as I can tell, I have the latest build (Version 5.2.10 (Build 1785)) I even went to the link above, downloaded it and reinstalled it and … while the folders for my databases are there, there is nothing inside (although oddly each folder shows how big (in Mb) the invisible databases are).
Help?
Tim

BrendanKeymasterHi Tim,
Do you see the Uncategorized folder there when you open the database? Is it expanded?
If not, click on the Show button that appears next to it when you move the mouse over it.
Click on Show.
You should see the forms beneath the Uncategorized folder then.
It’s probably just collapsed.
Thanks,
Brendan

Timothy WrightParticipantThat did it (although I also needed to first expand the Forms List to see the Uncategorized folder).
Thank you!

BrendanKeymasterHi Lee,
It isn’t clear from the crash report what’s causing this other than it’s deep inside a database transaction.
Would you be able to email me a backup of your database to support@tapforms.com and I’ll open it in my debugger?
Thanks,
Brendan

Clint MitchellParticipantHi Brendan,
My issue might be related to this. I recently did a clean install on my Mac. I downloaded Tap Forms from the App store and tried to restore my backed-up (tap forms .zip) database. This crashed Tap Forms. I deleted and reinstalled Tap Forms from the link you posted above and this version just crashes (becomes unresponsive) when I open the app.
My database is over 3GB in size. Any ideas?
I have attached the error report when Tap Forms 5 crashes.
Thanks

BrendanKeymasterCan you try unzipping your backup file in the Finder rather than using the Restore command within Tap Forms?
See if that solves your problem. I’m just wondering if the unzip routine in Tap Forms didn’t handle such a large file.

Clint MitchellParticipantOk, I just deleted Tap Forms and reintalled the above linked version. Firslty I unzipped the back-up, but Tap Forms will not even start up. When I launch the app I get the spinning beach ball and then after a few seconds it becomes unresponsive and I need to force quit the app.
That was with a frs hinstall of the app and without trying to load the DB.

BrendanKeymasterHi Clint,
I think I would need to see a copy of the database to figure out exactly where it’s crashing and why.
Is it possible for you to email me at support@tapforms.com and I can take a look at it?
I realize 3 GB is pretty big, but most of that is probably all images and file attachments.
What you could do to shrink the size of the database is to use the Duplicate Document function in Tap Forms, then right-click on the duplicated .tapforms document in the Finder and select Show Package Contents.
Now navigate into the “db-…cblite2” folder and go into the “attachments” folder (the one with the lowercase ‘a’. Delete all of the .blob files from there. Navigate back out of there and then Zip up the .tapforms document file and then email it to me.
This way you’re not touching your original file and just stripping down the size of the duplicated version of the file.
Thanks,
Brendan
