Have the ibm cloud set up on mac.

How do I add the database on my ios?

I’m afraid this is terribly unintuitive. I, too, set up a Cloudant account then pushed up the Mac database. However, it isn’t clear how to get an iOS device in sync with the cloud version. I went ahead and created a document on the iPhone with the same name as on the Mac, then went to sync and chose Cloudant. However, it created a new database ID (which does show on Cloudant) but there was no way to pick one of the existing Cloudant database IDs to use. I am unable to delete the newly iOS-assigned db ID on the iPhone (though I did delete it on Cloudant) and start fresh.

We really need some guidance on this and I’ve been unable to locate the manual for v5 on this site.

I tried to do that too.

    It is very unintuitive.

Did you notice the bug when you click on the book on the bottom left, it creates a copy of th sample?

Not very happy with the update.

OK, I think I’ve figured out what needs to be done. Certainly not intuitive but at least it works. The procedure below assumes you’ve already set up Cloudant sync for the database on the Mac.

    (1) Close the database document on the Mac you want to be synced to the iOS device via Cloudant
    (2) Open TF5 on the iOS device and leave it open at the Documents screen
    (3) From the Database Documents main pick list on the Mac, select the database document
    (4) Click the Share icon at the bottom of the dialog and you’ll see the iOS device listed then select it
    (5) The iOS device will then prompt you to accept the database document from the Mac
    (6) After the database document is transferred, select the Settings gear icon and then configure the Cloudant sync username and password. Voila, you’re set to go.

BTW, the sync is damned fast … almost instantaneous. A marked improvement over previous TF sync.

Ideally, I think there should be a way to choose the database you want to sync to the iOS device from a list off Cloudant.

    Hi Greg.

So I have to first sync it by being near my mac?

At work now, or I will try it when I get home but doesn’t this defeat the purpose?

Johan, the way I outlined above does require the iOS device and Mac be on the same LAN. I do think there needs to be a way to choose from a list of db docs on Cloudant without any device proximity requirements. I think this would be especially important if one was to share a db doc with other people.

Thanks Greg for your instructions… Worked like a charm for me. Once setup – all seems to work good. Getting it set up right is somewhat of a nuisance – but hopefully worth it!

I’m working on this. I have it working for the new iCloud sync that I’m also working on. But I will also get it working for Cloudant too.

I’m interested in this as well, for iCloud Sync. The thing I’m curious about is that following the online docs, it shows some configuration settings for frequency of automatic syncing, but I’m not seeing this on the OSX TF5 version, nor do I see a Dropbox option.

    Hi Mike,

You must be looking at the older Tap Forms Mac 3.5 documentation.

You need to look at the Tap Forms 5 documentation:

    https://www.tapforms.com/help-mac/5/en/topic/introduction

Also see the first video on my Vimeo page here to see how to setup iCloud sync:

    Thanks,

    Brendan
