I would like to split a form into three separate forms. I don’t have a Mac so this needs to be done on the iPhone itself.

I have a form named Cars. It has records for 3 vehicles. It has gotten so long that I want to have a separate form for each vehicle. I don’t want to manually entire multiple records into the new forms.

I’m interested in doing one of the following:

    1) Clone the original form to two new forms and delete the records that don’t belong in the new forms.

    2) Move some records to two new forms.

Are either of these methods possible?

    Hi Larry,

One solution to this issue without having to do all that is to simply create 3 Saved Searches that filter your records. One for each vehicle. That way you can simply select the Saved Search to list the vehicles you want at that moment.

The Duplicate Form function on macOS has the ability to duplicate all the records too, but not the iOS version. So duplicating the form wouldn’t also duplicate the records.

Another option would be to just duplicate the entire document on the iPhone into 3 different documents. Then you could delete the records that weren’t relevant for the selected vehicle document.

There’s no direct function to move records from one form to another.

The only other way to do it would be to export your records as a CSV file (without exporting the Record ID), then re-import the CSV files into separate forms.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Thanks for the rapid reply.

I went the export/newform/import route but I haven’t deleted any records from the original database yet.

I played around with searching for a car name and that works. How do you save a Search?

Experimenting a little afterward I see that going the Document route would have worked too. Currently I only use the Forms document and I’d prefer to keep it that way for now.

You can save a search by tapping on the filter button on the records list screen, then tap on the + button to make a new search. There you setup all the parameters for the search and then tap the Save button to save it. You can save multiple searches.
