    Hi

I have Tapforms 5 on my Mac and have successfully got it to sync with the same database in my iPhone 6.

When I look at a default form text field on the Mac then as I type the field display gets bigger and I can scroll up and down to view it with the cursor keys. I can then point the cursor to the end and add some more text. For example, with 20 lines of text and [CR] in the text causing the breaks.

It’s different on the iPhone. The text field size seems to be fixed at five lines then dots…. and I cannot scroll up and down to view any more lines (no cursor keys). Then if I tap into it to edit I see the very last line (i.e. line 20) but I can’t move up or down.

Have I simply got to make custom forms for it all and stop using the default forms?

    Thanks

    Norm

    Hi Norman,

On the iOS version you can set the “Summary Lines” property to 0 and then you can see all of the data on the record details screen.

To do that, go to the Customize Form screen for your form. Then tap on your Note field. Then tap on Field Options. Then tap on the [+ / -] button to set the Summary Lines value to 0. That’ll tell Tap Forms to display all the lines of the Note field.

Hey thanks for pointing me to the iOS Customize Form area. I have had a look around.

Where you say “To do that, go to the Customize Form screen for your form. Then tap on your Note field. Then tap on Field Options. ” In iOS I get to Field Options but then I have 11 listed items starting with Mask Field Value, and none of them seem to relate to Summary Lines nor is there a +/- button.

My apologies if I am missing something, could you give me some more guidance perhaps.

I am guessing that this Summary Lines Value 0 can only be set in the iOS version or can I quickly update in the MAC?

When I do get around to making several custom forms I guess I can set a notes field that auto expands to display correctly in iMac and iOS?

Sorry for asking three more questions…

It’s only available on Note field types. And only visible on iOS because it has no effect on the Mac version.

Yes, the Note field will expand automatically. It’s designed for large amounts of text whereas a Text field is designed just for small amounts of text.

If you also have an answer to the first question I would be most grateful to understand where I am going wrong, viz: Where you said “To do that, go to the Customize Form screen for your form. Then tap on your Note field. Then tap on Field Options. ” In iOS I get to Field Options but then I have 11 listed items starting with Mask Field Value, and none of them seem to relate to Summary Lines nor is there a +/- button.

My fault for asking three questions, sorry.

OK, my misunderstanding, apologies. I had the fields set as ‘Text’ and failed to appreciate that a ‘Note’ field is a different type. I have now set the iOS fields to the ‘Note’ type and found the Field Options to set the lines to zero. It works fine now.

I didn’t realise that nearby sync was on all the time – as I edit on the iPhone the Mac data changes straight away. Impressive!!

Excellent! I’m glad you’ve got it working the way you want now and also that Nearby sync is working well for you.
