Greg SmithParticipantHello. For some people (like myself) who are not adept at understanding databases, this is a very basic query. I want to set up a relationship between the athletes I coach and their test results over time. Here’s where you can correct me, or not. My plan: (a) I have the one form with an athlete’s personal information (name, DOB, phone, etc) and (b) a form with a list of tests and results (pushups, sit-ups, time trials). My problem is setting up & connecting the two forms, so every time I conduct a test it is reflected in the athlete’s profile (form). I’ve got some sort of link happening but it’s not clear which form I enter the tests (athlete form or the test form). Thanks in advance for any advice. My young paddlers will thanks you, too. I have attached both forms.

LeoParticipantJus set a a many to many relationship to the test with show reversed relation in the athlete form. Every time you conduct a test just of to the specific athlete and push the + plus sign under the relation field.
That should do all the thing you need.

Greg SmithParticipantThanks, Leo. I’ll give that a try. I appreciate your help. Greg.

Greg SmithParticipantWell, I’m a duffer. Just can’t seem to do it.

Cliff TarranceParticipantIt appears that what’s lacking is a means of connecting the data from the two forms. The Paddlers form has a Name field, but there doesn’t seem to be a Name field in the Tests form.
If you add the Name field to the Tests form, and set up a many-to-many relationship between the two forms, then you can add data to either form and click a button to either a) select a paddler to link to the current test, or b) select a test to link to the current paddler.
In either case, you have to explicitly link the records together from the pick list.
Hope that helps.

Greg SmithParticipantThanks, Cliff. But I just don;t seems to be able to make the cross-connection(s). I have attached my updated forms, if you have the time to have a look I’d certainly appreciate it. Once I see how it’s done I’ll “get it”, I reckon. :)

Cliff TarranceParticipantOkay, Greg, I took another look and I made some changes to my approach as I was playing with it.
Instead of many-to-many, I made the relationship one-to-many. This is probably what you want: one paddler can have many tests.
So the linking field from Paddlers to Tests is One to Many, and Show Inverse Relationship is checked. Then you can add test records from a Paddlers form, or select a Paddlers record from within the Tests form.
I’m attaching screenshots… I didn’t create all the fields you specified, but I think this is sufficient to illustrate. Hope it helps… if you have any questions let me know.

Greg SmithParticipantHi, Cliff.
I think I’m getting there. I just need to sit down and enter a few names and tests to see how it actually works. I’ll let you know.
Regards
