Followed all instructions, including step 10 when i accept the database on the mobile device. After this, nothing is happening, for 10-15 minutes at which point i give up.
WHY Bento, which is not supported for 5 years, is SOOO much easier with sync??? i am pissed with the money and time i invested into you guys, really pissed.

Same problem with sending database from iMac to iPad. I can select the database (migrated backup), see and select my iPad but then nothing actually happens.

(No comment about Bento – never used it)

    Forgot to mention:
I never see messages saying “Compressing Database” or “Sending Database”

The problem right now is that if you have iOS 10 and El Capitan, they don’t seem to talk to each other. Or if you’re using macOS Sierra with iOS 9, they also don’t seem to talk to each other for this function. But if you have iOS 10 and macOS Sierra, then it works perfectly.

The workaround for this problem until you’re able to upgrade to macOS Sierra and/or iOS 10 is to use iTunes File Sharing to copy the .tapforms document from your Mac to your iOS device.

    Sorry for the trouble.

I’m having the same problem with iOS 10 and El Capitan. I’ve copied three .tapforms files to Tap Forms HD in iTunes File Sharing and synced the iPad. Now how do I get the files into Tap Forms on the Mac?

    Hi Steve,

Tap Forms HD is the older version of Tap Forms, so I’m not sure that’ll work for you with the .tapforms documents.

You can drag a .tapforms document into the main Database Documents window in Tap Forms 5 for Mac. Just let go when you see the blue divider line appear between the rows of the list of documents. Tap Forms will move the file into the appropriate folder on your drive.

Oops. When I copied the files to the correct version, it worked fine. I’d say PEBKAC, but is that accurate with a touchscreen device? ?

Wow. That face is huge in Safari on the Mac.

Hey Brendan, any chance this gets solved? I use IOS 10 but am not updating from El Capitan because some of my other more expensive software is forcing me to upgrade if I go to Sierra. I don’t want to register for yet another cloud system and using iTunes isn’t exactly convenient so I was really banking on this local wifi syncing. Right now the $24 I paid for TF5 and the extra $8 I dropped on my phone are pretty much a waste :(

    Hi Rob,

Well, I hope that Tap Forms isn’t a waste for you. Sorry about that. :(

This issue is just the initial copy of the .tapforms document from one device to another. Once you get the document copied over, then Nearby sync works even between old and new OS versions. So just use iTunes File Sharing the one time to copy the .tapforms document from your Mac to your iPhone and then setup Nearby sync between them.

Hopefully your investment in Tap Forms won’t have been a waste now. :)

Sorry I came across a bit harsh. I really do like the app and it works well for the one fairly simple db I use it for.

I did the initial file transfer using iTunes so the files are on my phone and I can access them. However, I still have the same issue while trying to use the nearby sync (if I am doing it correctly).

I click on “Send document to another device”, the popup window shows my phone. I click on it and hit the Select button. The Select button then says Waiting… but is greyed out and nothing happens, it just sits there. My only option is to click the Done button.

    What am I doing wrong?

That’s not the Nearby sync function.

Nearby sync is configured on the Sync Settings screen. On Mac it’s in the Preferences window. On iOS it’s in the Tools area.
