    Hi Brendan,

first, I’d like to thank you for creating Tap Forms. It is a very powerful but easy to use application, which I love to use for administrating my desaster relief unit and daily duty tasks.

At the moment, I’m trying to create a “Staffing Scheldule” form. In that form I want to definite a specific function in the unit and then matching one of the existing members with his qualifications (existing in another form) to it. So, if a member changes his qualification or a function would be newly stuffed, there would be no need to enter the same data in several forms. A relation-form did not bring the desired results, I am hoping for entering or chosing members from another list and have their qualifications showed in another field.

Is there any function or possibility for me to create such a field?

    Best regards from Germany

    Hello Franz,

It sounds like you want to use a Link to Form field with the Link Type set to “Many to Many”. With that function you’ll be able to link to an already created record in the target form. Then if you make any changes to the record in the target form, that will be displayed in the parent form when you view the linked records.

    Thanks!

    Hello Brendan,

thank you for your reply. I already looked into the many-to-many link but am not 100% satisfied with this solution. I am looking more for a function like VLOOKUP, which searches the entered data in another table and giving back another information from the concerning record.

    For example:

In the form “Schedule”, I want to insert a member (which has an own record with his qualifications in another form) into a field and have several of his qualifications displayed in another fields. It’s a little complicated to express what I like, I hope that I could make it more clear.

    Best regards from Germany

    Hello Franz,

I understand what you want. But one question I have is, with this VLOOKUP function, would it fetch the information from just ONE child record? Or would it be able to add multiple sets of information from different child records? In your example, can you pick multiple members or just one member and have their information displayed? The reason I ask that is because it sounds like a One-to-One link type if that’s the case.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Yes!,

a one to one would be great. I’m in need for it too.

    Hi Brendan,

I have no preference about this one. For me, I could choose one or multiple child records. But the additional display of information stored in this child records would be great.

    Best regards

    Hello Brendan,

Don’t know if you looked into this request any further but I have the same requirement as Franz. Only it has to do with my wine database; what I would like to do is link my wine purchases and notes to a second database that has descriptions of the wine/grape varieties.

E.g. My Wine db would have an entry for Calamus Vinemount Ridge Riesling then if I would like to get the grape descriptions I could either lookup “Riesling” in the Wine Variety db or have the descriptive appear in a new data field called “Description” (the same Riesling description would appear for all Riesling wines).

    Many thanks,

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

I haven’t spent any time on this. Sorry.

    Thanks,

    Brendan
