LeoC2ParticipantI need to to prevent my users on IOS devoices from accidentally modifying forms. I would like to set forms to entry only on their devices using a passcode, this is sometimes called a Kiosk mode.
How?

LeoParticipantLeo,
do you want to protect data or the fields? If its the the fields (form) itself then you can set this on iOs:
I believe it’s
Edit form
Company settings.Sorry if these are the wrong name settings, I’m using the Dutch version.

LeoC2ParticipantI want the forms to be data entry only, I don’t want users to accidentally modify the fields or their arrangement.
In other words if the ability to customize forms is turned off and can only be on with a password that would do it.

LeoParticipantYou can do that as described above on iOS devices. Then perform a sync and the form is protected on all devices

BrendanKeymasterOn the English version this setting is called “Enterprise Settings”. Originally there was supposed to be more than one function under that area. But right now it’s just the function to lock the form. You would turn the Lock Form function on, then enter in a password that you make up. It doesn’t have to be your main password and in fact, it shouldn’t be. The password is stored along with the form. Then you can email the form template to your co-workers. When they import the form, they won’t be able to edit the form’s structure, but they will be able to edit data and add records to it.
Thanks,
Brendan

LeoC2ParticipantThanks Brendan, this works but it takes a lot of work to set up each device. Why can’t this be done at the Mac level so that when forms are exported to the devices they automatically can’t do any editing. In other words, the Kiosk mode I described earlier?

BrendanKeymasterIf you set it up on the iOS version just once, you can email the form to other iOS devices and the form editing password will be sent along with the form. It’s not a super duper security though since the password for it is stored within the form itself.
It’s one of those very rarely used features that began on the iOS version, but never made it to the Mac version. Mostly because there was just no demand for it on the Mac.

Michael RileyParticipantHello, this is my first post.
Thanks for a great application, Brendon.
Mine is an MS Access programming background and I find myself comparing. As a developer, I would love to provide applications to end users on the mac platform.
To do so securely requires locking the development tools down, as I am sure you know.I would love to see the ability to lock the forms down on all versions, including the mac.
Please consider adding this feature to your next updateKeep up the great work.
Best Regards

BrendanKeymasterThanks for the feature request Michael.
Even though the iOS version has this feature, it’s not super secure for preventing form editing since the TFF file itself contains the passcode and could easily be changed or removed. It was really just a way of preventing general users from editing the forms, but for anything commercial, it’d have to be way more robust than that with probably a unique data format, not so easily inspected.
