    Hello Brendan
Thank for this superb product that is Tapforms.
I live in Qc Canada, a french speaker. I’m a gastroenterologist and I use this database for medical folders. I enter data during meeting patients, used print layout for follow up and the basing data format for consultation (cause the text box can be adjust to the amount of text I decide to put in). I also you Dragon dictation to enter data with a microphone, and I work very well with a great compatibility with you product and increased my performance a lot. At this point, the only problem I found is this one: when I need to enter data in a text box for a new patient, each time I need to set police text/police size/interligne space. For a research purpose, I need a great number of text box for the same patient. So it become very long to do it each time. Only if it possible, do you think it can be possible to find a way to set the same police for all the database. Thanks a lot again.

    Hello Yannick,

By “police”, do you mean Font?

If so, then if you set the initial font style and size on a Note field in the custom layout editor, then Tap Forms will use that value for all future notes that you add. So you will want to turn on Edit Layout mode (the Edit Layout button should be blue), then turn on the Text Inspector. Then click on your Note field object and set whatever font you want to be for the default.

From then on, any new records you create will use that font and size by default.

    I hope that helps.

    Thanks!

    Hello Brendan,

Thanks for the tip but it seems this does only work for custom layout not for the default layout. On the default my text boxes always revert to Helvetica Neue 14 points whereas on my custom they stay with Helvetica (classic) 12 points.

    Any idea?

    Thank you !

    Hi Brendan,

I too am having issues with setting font size and style in a note field. Somehow, I have two different styles in there for different entries in the form. Nothing I do seems to change the font size and style. If I change the field to a text field in the form editor, I can then set the font size and style as expected. If I change it back to a note however, it reverts to these two different sizes of helvetica. I’d use a text field instead of a note, but your text field editor on the iPhone will only display one line of text.

    Thanks,

    -Matt

    Hi Matthew,

Once a font has been set on the Note field in the layout editor, it only affects new records being created. If you’ve already entered data into the Note field, you’ll need to individually select the Note field’s contents and set the font while in record edit mode. That’s when the Edit Layout inspector panel is NOT showing.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Hello Laurent,

Yes, that’s correct. The default font selection only works for the custom layouts, not for the Default Layout.

Here’s a “behind the scenes” trick for you though:

    defaults write com.tapforms.mac font_name_notes "HelveticaNeue-Medium"

    and

    defaults write com.tapforms.mac font_size_notes 12

The Note edit window will then use that font and size for new records.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Hi Brendan
I have noticed some inconsistencies in the behaviour of fonts in Notes Fields between IOS devices and Mac.

I imported my db from Bento originally and it seems that most notes fields inherited the “system” font at 13pt. Having synced with several IOS devices, I find that when I now add a new record with a notes field on an IOS device that it appears in the Mac Version as Helvetica.
I have tried the trick above of setting the Mac default font to Helvetica 13pt in an effort to standardise the font across platforms.
Now I have a mix of system and helvetica across devices which seems to have little visual impact on the Mac but a significant impact on IOS making some notes fields fonts appear much smaller than others.

Is there any way to force the IOS version to use a particular default font as with Mac?

How does IOS and Mac determine what is the “system” font?

Thanks again for a great product!

    regards
    Bruce

    Hi Bruce,

The iOS version has its own dedicated screen for setting default fonts for Note fields. Tap on Tools, then Font Settings, then Notes. But it sets the default font for new notes, not for existing notes.

There are differences in how fonts render between iOS and Mac though.

    Thanks,

    Brendan
