I have a bit of an issue with the migration to V5. I had databases in V4 where I specified my own form_record_id’s that kept a TF database in alignment with another data storage system in use. When the migration took place, it appears all my custom form_ids were overwritten with new V5 ones, and now I get a massive amount of duplicates of the existing 600 records in the database when I do the import of data from the other system

What I then did was export everything from the V5 database as a CSV (including photos added only to the TF version to improve usability), with the aim of re-importing everything after I had rewritten the form_record_id’s back to their old values in alignment with the other system, from which I could start the imports again, and add new photos to the new records.

However, I have no idea where the photos need to be dragged to in the new V5 folder structure in order for them to appear in the existing records. Searching my mac for the file names mentioned in the CSV file also does not indicate where they live on the system.

Adding them back one at a time is out of the question given the sheer number of existing records.

Can you please indicate where one should copy the folder of exported jpg files to in order for them to appear in the existing records in V5 when these are all re-imported again.

    Thanks

Images and other file attachments are no longer stored the way they used to be. They’re now stored in the database and encoded as .blob files with a new unique filename. If you right-click on a .tapforms document you can navigate the hierarchy and see where the images end up.

I need to write a routine still that will let you import the photos along side the CSV file. I had actually worked on that before I wrote the new Tap Forms Archive format, but OS X kept giving me security violations because it wouldn’t let me reference a photos folder along side a CSV file. So I need to have two buttons now on the Import Records screen. One to select the CSV file and another to select a Photos folder that would hold the photos referenced by any Photo fields in the CSV file. Either that or I need to allow you to select a .zip file and then Tap Forms will be able to get access to the CSV and photos folder from within the zip.

I wrote the Tap Forms Archive function because it was always challenging doing what you’re doing. People just wanted to share their Tap Forms data, photos, files, and all. So the Tap Forms Archive command gives you a nice single file you can send to someone that’ll let them import it all into their Tap Forms documents.

But anyway, it needs a bit more work in that area to support importing photos in batch.

There is a new ID associated with every object in Tap Forms.
