Rasa Clay WorksParticipantHi
Love this software!
Can I open a Finder window (for a bunch of images in a directory) in a field like the web link?

BrendanKeymasterHi Rasa,
Yes you can do that either with a File Attachment field by adding an alias to a folder or by using a Web Site field and using a URL like this:
file:///Users/brendan/Desktop

raily74ParticipantHi Brendan,
I’ve been interested in this solution for ages and would like to open the Finder folder with a URL. So I copied your path and just replaced your username with mine. But whenever I click on the web icon, the following error message appears:
The Tap Forms Mac 5 program does not have permission to open Desktop. But when I confirm the error message, a window opens one level higher than the desired target.
Tap Forms has full hard disk access and is approved as an operating aid.
I have a large collection of models with a lot of associated files that I don’t want to sync all of the items from the Finder to the iPhone. The route via the URL would simply be nicer than via the alias and it basically seems to work.
I’m looking forward to your feedback. Thanks!

raily74ParticipantHi Brendan,
I forgot to give you following information: I’m using macOS 10.14.6, Tap Forms 5.3.18, intel iMac 2013

Sam MoffattParticipantTry using the script folder access to give Tap Forms access to a location on your hard drive and then you should be able to point to it.

BrendanKeymasterHi Michael,
Another option would be to add a File Attachment field and use the alias function to get an alias to a folder you want to open. Double-click on it in the File Attachment field and Tap Forms will open the file/folder.
Thanks,
Brendan

raily74ParticipantHi Brendan,
Thank you for your quick response. Up until now I have always used the Attachment field and the Alias function. However, if there is only one folder in it, the field will take up too much space on the form for its usefulness. The little link is much smarter there.Hi Sam,
you are my hero today! Thanks for pointing out the “script folder access”. A function that I did not know before. It also took quite a bit of Google research to understand what you mean by that. But in the end I solved it and I’m very happy with it. Many Thanks!Michael

Sam MoffattParticipantGlad to hear it solved the issue, was a bit of a stab in the dark I must admit but happy to hear it’s got you up and running.

raily74ParticipantHello Brendan, hello Sam,
after a week in the test with folder alias and Script Folder Access, both ways come to problems. In both cases it seems to be a bug.
1. The way over the folder alias (Brendan)
In Tap Forms, I double-click on the alias to get to the Finder folder. In case of creating a new subfolder or changing the name of an existing one in finder, I then have two aliases in Tap Forms of which the lower only works. So I always have to delete an alias after such an action.
In case of creating a new subfolder without using the alias before, every works fine. But than I have to search for the folder manually.2. The way over the URL (SAM) – my preferred way
If the Script Folder Access is set once, it works fine as described last week. As soon as I restart Tap Forms, it doesn’t work anymore. I first have to define the Script Folder Access again in the preferences.Would be nice to get this working because it’s very important to me. There are a lot of files I don’t want to sync to iOS. So it would be nice to get to finder with one click (URL) ore with double-click (alias) and without errors.
Thanks a lot for your help.
