Clayton DoddParticipantI’m a musician and I’m in several bands. What I would like to be able to do is have a Master Song Catalog that contains every song I’m involved with and be able to derive “sub forms” that would show only the songs for band X, Y, or Z.
I realize I can select and export “Band X” records, then import them into a “Band X” form, but is there a simpler way to do this?
I’m sure I haven’t spent enough time with TF…the answer is probably obvious.
Thanks,
Clayton

1LeviteParticipantHi Clayton:
Brendan can probably give a better answer, but I’ll toss two possibilities out. I primarily use TF for MAC, and I believe these principles will apply to TF for iOS as well.
OPTION 1
Set up a form for the SONGS. Include the fields you want: Title, composer, performance time, key signature, tempo, lyrics (as a NOTE field), etc. You may want to include a lead sheet pdf as an Attachment File field.
Set up another form for the BANDS. Include the fields you want: Band Name, Members, etc., and include a “Link to FORM” field (Many to Many) that links to the SONGs form. If you check the “inverse relationship” on the Link to Form definition, the SONGS form will show what bands have the song on the playlist.
You might want to set up another form for “Gig/Practice dates” and associate those with the BAND in the same way as with the SONGS (although this might be a ONE to MANY link). That way, in the BAND form you can see all the songs associated with a BAND, and the list of gigs & practice times. You can define an Alarm for these dates/times if desired.
It occurred to me you might also want a “set list” for different sets that a Band plays. For each Set List, define another Link to FORM (Many to Many) in the BAND form and select the SONGS associated with that set.
OPTION 2
Set up a SONGS form and include a multi-select pick list field for the BAND. Define a SEARCH RULE to identify BAND X (a smart search) and do the same for the other bands.
Hope these help. I had to experiment and try various form configurations before I settled on the one that worked for me.

BrendanKeymasterEither option looks good to me. It just depends on what you want or need. Option 2 is simpler to setup. But Option 1 is more comprehensive.
Great suggestions 1Levite!
