We are a small record label. I need to track every song with full details (composer, artist, title, CD info, length, ISRC (song codes for each song or new version of the same song) etc. I have started with the form for the songs. Then I creaed a form for the CDs. However, the choice of relationship stumps me because some songs can be on two different CDs (with the same, or a different code), or on a CD and DVD. Many to one seems likely, but it’s more like many to many?? This is a huge job so I’d really appreciate some assistance before I go too far. Thank you. And, BTW, this is a most amazing app. :)

Yes, this sounds like the job for a Many-to-Many Link Type because a song can appear on more than one CD and a CD can have more than one song. But you do have to manage that relationship manually by adding the songs to your CDs by selecting them. So you would have a form for CDs and a form for Songs. A Link to Form field on the CD form points to the Songs form. Then you just click the checkmark button at the bottom of the Songs table view on the selected CD and select the songs that should be on that CD.

Although if a CD had a unique code and all the songs had a matching code for the CD then the Join Link Type would allow Tap Forms to establish the relationships for you in one go without you having to manually manage them like you have to do with the Many to Many.

    Hope that helps a bit.

    Thanks!

    Hi Brendan,

Our CDs have bar codes, but then if the same version song (same ISRC) is on more than on CD, it would have a different UPC. It’s the overlap that’s causing confusion. I just thought of something that might work but will need to play with the forms first. If it’s a workable solution, I’ll post it here for others who might have similar “catalogue” issues.

Tap Forms is absolutely brilliant in its flexibility and ease of use, and I see you are always responsive to people. You get top ratings all the way. :)

    Thanks,
    Naomi

    Hi Naomi,

Yes, please do share what you come up with! You can also post a .tfarc or .tff file to the Template Exchange Forum if you like.

    Thanks!

    Brendan
