Supreme TanookiParticipantHi,
I’ve got a database set up to track lessons and students.
In Form S, I have all the students that are signed-up, and in Form L I have all the lessons arranged by date and content.
In Form L, I created a “Link to Form” field (many to many), so that for each record, I can tick off the names of those present. I have activated “Show Inverse Relationship”, so that when I view the students records in Form S, I can see which lessons they have attended.
However, the problem I have encountered is that the “Link from Form” field in Form S only displays one lesson, rendering the entire setup pointless.
Is this normal behaviour or is it a bug?
Cheers.

LeoParticipantHi,
the inverse relationship shows the father from where the link was made. If you are trying to add multiple links from 1 father then your setup is incorrect
To do the thing you want and need you must create the lessons as father and the students as child form.

Supreme TanookiParticipantHi,
Thanks for your answer. The setup you suggest doesn’t work for me either, because now I’m unable to assign more than one student to a lesson.
What I’d like is to be able to link multiple records from two separate forms, and have reverse relationships for all linked records.
For example:
LESSONS
Lesson 1
Students (Link to Form): Bob, Antoine, Chester
Lesson 2
Students (Link to Form): Bob, ChesterSTUDENTS:
Antoine
Lessons (Link from Form/Inverse Rel.): 1
Bob
Lessons (Link from Form/Inverse Rel.): 1, 2
Chester
Lessons (Link from Form/Inverse Rel.): 1, 2September 4, 2016 at 8:44 AM #19321
LeoParticipantYou are right. This is a bug…
Excisting setups do as they supposed too, but new ones does only show the one record. The inverse behave like a one to many inverse
Se attached forms…
Brendan, this is for you…

LeoParticipantI think I have found the problem.
at the first setup the link to field shows many to many as default but in reality it is a one to many type. Edit the field type in the father to one to many and back, deselect the show reverse relationship option and select it again,
After that it wil work as you would like it to be.

@ Brendan, this seems to be the bug, could you look in to it?

BrendanKeymasterIt’s possible what happened was you turned on the Show Inverse Relationship function before setting the Link Type. That could cause that. You would need to turn off the Show Inverse Relationship function, then change the Link Type and then re-enable the Show Inverse Relationship function.
I just tested creating a new field and the default was “One to Many”. Then I switched it to Many to Many and then I enabled Show Inverse Relationship. It worked as expected. But ya, if you switch Link Types you need to turn off and then on again the Show Inverse Relationship function.

LeoParticipantBrendan,
with me the default setting was many to many but when I checked again it was set to one to many. It was changed somewhere somehow.
Maybe a left over from earlier?

Supreme TanookiParticipantYup, this fixed the problem. Thank you both for your help.
