Mike SchwartzParticipantMy custom form is set to group records by a field named “Category”, and if all records are shown then the Section Headings are correct. Likewise, no problem with several saved searches that use Search Rules. However, when I entered a simple search string in the Search Box, the found records were suddenly grouped by Date rather than Category. Please see the attached screen shot, which shows both the form settings and the resulting Section Headings. Also, note that there are duplicate Section Headings for January 2017 and February 2017.
Any advice?
Thanks,

BrendanKeymasterInteresting. I’ll look into this.
FYI, you don’t have to set the First Sort Field to be the same as the Group Records By since the Group Records By sorting takes priority over the First Sort Field if it’s set. So there can be 4 levels of sorting if you use the Group Records By option.

BrendanKeymasterOh, and having Activity Name set as the Third Sort Field probably won’t ever do anything unless you have identical “Date of Activity” entries (down to the second) in multiple records.

Mike SchwartzParticipantThanks for looking into this, and for the tips about sort levels and grouping.
In my case, “Date of Activity” is a simple Date field as opposed to a Date & Time field, so I think that “31 January” in one record is identical to “31 January” in another record, even if the records were created at different times and the field has a default value of “Set Current Date”. Maybe that’s not how the data are stored internally, but that’s how it appears to work in terms of sorting behavior. I confirmed this by looking at two records that had the same date. I added “xxx” in front of the first one’s Activity Name, and “aaa” in front of the second one’s name. After refreshing the record list, the two records did switch places with the “aaa” record on top.
Thanks again!

BrendanKeymasterHi Mike,
Ah yes. Ok. I think it’s working because I automatically set the time to the start of the day for the specified date. So different dates will have the exact same time value in them. But even Time fields store the date. It’s just a fixed date value.
