I’m using the wonderful product Tap Forms 5 on my Mac (mini), MacBook Air, and the iPhone.

For some (unknown) reason I’ve lost one of my current, most important records which had a ton of important text in its Note field (I keep a history of interactions there). I assume it must have been erroneously deleted when something fell on the keyboard of my Mac whilst cleaning up my desk. But I couldn’t find the record in File > Recover deleted items. Weird, right?

Actually I saw it in full on my iPhone before the damn thing synched with the Mac and then it was gone there too.

Is there no way of getting it back from ~/Library/Containers/com.tapzapp.tapforms-mac/Data/Documents ? It appears that there are numerous zip files in this folder as I have “Backup on quit” checked in Settings.

I’m using Apple’s Time Machine, so I could always restore the data from the day before and so on.

In the meantime I have turned off the Sync for all devices. Now I just want that record back.

The whole backup/recover functionality seems quite confusing because of the Sync (via iCloud?) between multiple devices. The Sync is of course very valuable for daily work on different devices, but …

    Can anyone help?

    Hi Niels,

Do you have another Mac with Tap Forms on it or even a different user account? If so, you could take a backup and restore it to the other Mac (or user account) and then export that record as an archive and then import it back into your main document in your regular user account.

    Thanks

    Thanks for your tip, Brendan.

Indeed, I got the record back by finding a “recent” backup (older .zip file in the default folder ~/Library/Containers/com.tapzapp.tapforms-mac/Data/Documents/Backups), unzipping the file, loading .tapforms in the zip folder, and exporting the record, closing the backup, reloading the original (latest .zip backup in aforementioned folder) and importing that missing record. Very thankful!

Note: I turned off Sync (via iCloud) on all devices before doing all of this, deleting the iCloud copies (“Settings > Sync > Delete from iCloud” on MacBook Air; Tools > Sync Settings > Delete from iCloud” on iPhone), and then turned Sync back on afterwards. Voila!

Luckily I had “Backup on Quit” checked (Settings > General) on my main device, the Mac mini.
