tomfly58ParticipantI bought Tap Forms on the App Store for Mac, but I saw that the external version is newer, so if I download the free version as I do to activate it, as in the App Store version there isn’t the serial number?I have to buy another version? Let’s hope not because I bought the three versions Mac iPhone and Ipad and the total is pricey.
Thanks RobyOctober 13, 2015 at 7:50 AM #14990
LeoParticipantNo, just start TF for the second time and you will receive a activation key.

BrendanKeymasterHi Tom,
No, you don’t have to uninstall the Mac App Store version in order to install and launch the direct download version.
The direct download version is definitely newer than the MAS version. In fact, even the next update for the Mac App Store will be older than the direct download version. That’s because I submitted the 3.5.5 update to Apple over a week ago now and since then I’ve updated the direct download version a few times. They haven’t started to review the update yet unfortunately. As soon as they review and approve it, I’ll be submitting yet another update to them so hopefully the MAS version can catch up with the direct download version.
If I were to reject the version I submitted over a week ago to upload the current version, then I’d go back to the bottom of the queue and it’d take yet another week or two to get the update out. And if I keep doing that, then the updates will never come out.
I always recommend to people to buy direct if they don’t need iCloud sync and are fine with just Dropbox sync because you get the latest versions always from me directly.
Thanks,
Brendan

tomfly58ParticipantThanks Brendan, now everything is ok. Congratulations on the excellent program and for your timely intervention in the Forum. A small request: it will be possible to one day have the iPad and iPhone as a custom layout for Mac ?.
Another question: I’m creating a database for a collection of stamps and at the end there will be stored 4-5000 recod with its image, I will have problems for the amount of records? Maybe I did not understand me, but you can create two separate databases, one for the stamps and the other for all other Forms?
Last question the program tells me that there is the 693 version from download but after having done it always comes back to 692!Ps: sorry for my bad English but are italiano and use google translator
thanks Roby

BrendanKeymasterHi Roby,
Oops. That was my mistake. I typed 693 instead of 692 into the Sparkle configuration file for the last update. Sorry for the confusion. 692 is the latest version of the direct download version.
You should have no problems with 4-5000 records with images in Tap Forms.
There is only one database file at the moment, but it’s something I’m working on for a future upgrade.
Custom layouts are not available for iPad, but it has been on the to-do list for a while now. I’m sure I’ll get to it one day. Sorry for the delay on this one folks. It’s a big build to do that and I’m currently working on the a major restructuring project of the database and sync engine in Tap Forms.
Thanks!

Antonio EspositoParticipantHi Brendan,
how can direct buy without MAS? I would secure to obtain even the last update and no wait Apple process. ThanksOctober 16, 2015 at 12:42 AM #15008
BrendanKeymasterHello Antonio,
Version 3.5.5 has just been approved by Apple today.
But version 3.5.6 is available from my home page. Just click on the Free Trial button and click on the Mac item there from the menu.
When you launch the Mac Trial version you’ll be able to purchase it directly from within the app.
Thanks!

tomfly58ParticipantThanks for the answers and for your work
RobyOctober 17, 2015 at 1:09 AM #15012
BrendanKeymasterHi Roby,
I just uploaded build 3.5.6 (693) to my website for the direct download version. So if you get notified of that version, then that’s a valid new version. Just some stability improvements to fix some crashing.
Thanks,
Brendan

tomfly58Participantgreat job, already updated
Thanks RobyOctober 17, 2015 at 8:32 AM #15015
Antonio EspositoParticipantThanks for answer Brendan.Another question: Is Tapforms a relational or flat database?
October 17, 2015 at 6:20 PM #15019
BrendanKeymasterHi Antonio,
Tap Forms is relational via the use of the Link to Form field type. You can create a relationship between forms using a one-to-many or a many-to-many link type.
Thanks,
Brendan

WesParticipantJust this week I bought TF via the MAS (loving it so far BTW) and now I think I should have purchased the direct version. I think I could live with just the Dropbox sync. Besides getting updates faster, are there other benefits from the direct version? I don’t suppose there’s a way to switch purchased versions? Thanks
October 30, 2015 at 11:20 AM #15107
BrendanKeymasterHi Wes,
Sure, just download the Mac trial version and it’ll detect if you have purchased the MAS version and it’ll give you a free license. You may need to launch it a second time though to see the notice.
I’ve already updated the direct download version to 3.5.7. I submitted the update to Apple on the same day, but alas, it’ll be a week before they review it.
Thanks!
Brendan
