scneophyteParticipantIt would be nice to quickly switch between forms, for this use case to switch back to the previous form using a button and / or keyboard shortcut.
For example, I have a “PO’s / Invoices” form that is the parent to the “Sales” form. I enter the PO into the former form then switch to the actual sales on the latter. I want to then go back to the former form to verify that the child records appear correctly.
As a laptop user, my preference is a keyboard shortcut so that I do not have to move my hands from the keyboard, to the trackpad, then back to the keyboard.

Mike SchwartzParticipantscneophyte,
I’m assuming that on your PO form you have a linked field to your Sales form. Underneath the linked field table is a group of controls. If you click on the “+” button, it will take you directly to your child Sales form and create a new record there. After finishing data entry, you can click on the back-arrow button that appears at the top of the form area (hover over it and you will see a tool tip labeled “Go to parent form”). That’ll send you back to the PO form, where the linked field should display the new Sales record that you added.
If you’re just viewing a record in your PO form, you can simply double-click an entry in your linked field and Tap Forms will take you directly to that record on the Sales form. You can then click the same control mentioned above to return to the PO form.
Not a keyboard shortcut, but does this get you most of the way there?

scneophyteParticipantIt does, very much so! Thanks for the response, Mike. I knew about the double-clicking option but never bothered to click the plus sign.
I can live with this and in fact prefer this over my original feature request. It is excellent that child records created in this way are automatically linked to the parent form and, when there are multiple records to enter on the sales form, it is easy to see if you have entered them all!
Now, if you could only save searches on “Link from Form” fields I would be entirely happy.

BrendanKeymasterAlso, there’s a command-key to return back to the parent, so you don’t have to click the back button. You can press command-left arrow.

scneophyteParticipantThanks to both of you! I found the keyboard shortcut under Records > Go To.
While this thread is admittedly about a user (me) who didn’t fully explore the user interface and menu options, it did make me think about how I would love to see how everyone uses TF in a live environment…like a TF User Group meeting (online) where people can demonstrate all the cool tweaks and tricks.

scneophyteParticipantWhile this workflow does fulfill the original request, there is a slight complicating factor for me.
Method #1: I want to create additional records that link back to the parent form and can do that with the “+” sign but that requires me to re-enter all the information about the record from scratch.
Method #2: A faster method for me is duplicating a record which copies much of the redundant information but does not maintain the link back to the parent record. Method #2 is more efficient than Method #1.
The complicating factor is that, when I view the filtered child records from the link on the parent form and then duplicate a record, since this new record is not linked to the parent, the new record “disappears” from the list. To see the child record I must then return to the full, unfiltered record list.
Will this no longer be an issue when the feature in the string below is implemented?
Import Records: Link From Form fieldAugust 6, 2017 at 6:29 PM #23923
BrendanKeymasterThe record should be linked to the parent when you duplicate a linked record. That must be a bug. I’ll look into a fix for that.

BrendanKeymasterI’ve fixed this bug. If you follow a relationship and duplicate the linked record, it will maintain its parent connection.
