    Hi Brendan,
I have four days left on my trial period but I have two issues I need advice on.
    1. Does the template allow me to create drop downs for eg, on creating a Field called Credit Cards, can I have the list of available cards drop down for the user to click and select rather then type in?
    2. Why does the CVV item show up in the Records List above the first word of the file that’s been created. Can I avoid that?

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Hi Bill,

    1. Yes you sure can. In Tap Forms those are called Pick Lists. See the Pick Lists chapter in the online user manual:

    http://www.manula.com/manuals/tap-zapp/tap-forms-mac/3/en/topic/pick-lists

    2. Yes. You can edit your form and move that field further down the list or reduce the number of fields displayed on the records list view by setting the List View Fields property. You can set it from 1 to 5.

    Thanks!

    Hi Brendan,
I’m amazed you’re still up at this hour. I was just about to drop you a line to say I had stumbled and fumbled my way onto the drop down solution. Your software is so logical that a user will eventually find the answer, even before he does the sensible thing and studies the manual properly.

I didn’t make the second question very clear…when I create a credit card record the CVV number , eg 456 shows up about the name on the records list. I can hide it by clicking Hide Sections but I wondered why it was doing this.

    Hi Bill,

It could be that you’re grouping your records by the CVV number? Check the “Group Records By” option on the Form properties inspector panel.

    Thanks!

    Thanks, I’ll try that.

I’m getting all my fields organised now but when I buy the software, will the records I’ve set up remain…or do I start again?

    Hi Bill,

It’ll all be there still. You can either use the In-app purchase on the License screen you see when you start the app, or you can download the version from the Mac App Store. It’s your choice. The difference is the Mac App Store version has iCloud and Dropbox sync, but the direct download version has only Dropbox support. That’s a technical restriction Apple puts on apps distributed outside the Mac App Store, not something I chose to limit myself. But in either case, if you buy one and change your mind and want the other, just let me know and I’ll take care of you. Although if you do buy the Mac App Store version after you’ve already used the direct download version, you’ll need to delete the “Tap Forms Mac” app icon from your Applications folder and then download the one from the Mac App Store. That’s because they both have the same internal identifier and the Mac App Store will think you already have it installed and may not install the one from it’s catalogue. You won’t lose your data in any case and won’t have to start again since the data is stored separately on your drive from the Application file itself.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Hi Brendan,

Thanks for all the assistance, especially at late hours in Canada. It would be great if all app designers were as readily available and helpful as you.

    Cheers,

    Hi Brendan,
You’ll recall my question about the issue of credit cards forms…I’ve decided to link the credit card info with the parent form- Client Information.
In using the manual to set up the link I can see the Link Type tick box on the Online Manual but I cant find that in the layout I have.

Does the current Tap Forms have a different layout to the manual or am I not seeing the forest for the trees because I cant see that exact look?

    Hi Bill,

The Link Type property is configured on the Fields tab when you have the Form button selected. It won’t be there for a custom layout because that’s a field property, not a layout item’s properties. For a layout item, all you can do is change the stroke, fill, etc. But for a field you can change all sorts of properties.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Hi Brendan,
Thanks for the information. Here we are on the last day of the trial and just when I thought I had mastered it all – a little glitch!
I went through the process of matching up a client form with the credit card form and it worked perfectly. I then went to link a second client with the credit card and can’t repeat the process. I cant work out what I’ve done wrong. I must say that my attention was taken by a more serious problem at that moment – my wife’s website was the victim of a malicious hack attack and it took me all day to deal with the problem. So I’m back here looking at why I cant solve what is obviously a simple error in my process.

    Hi Brendan,

Relax. Its not you, it’s me. With the hacking issue out of the way I went back and calmly approached the process again and set up the relationship links.
    Apologies for the previous message.

    Bill
