Jim WarthmanParticipantI just downloaded the trial version, so perhaps this is a newbie mistake.
I created a simple database with two forms: Images and Entries.
I created a link between the two forms using “Join”.
I created a record in the Entries form.
I tried multiple times to create a linked entry in the Images form, but each time, the entry disappears when I click to the other form.
After this happens, I noticed the link definition seems to have become corrupt. Instead of listing the field name from “this form”, it lists “garbage” text: TFField[fid-…9a71]
In the attached screen capture you can see the Entries form has one record, and the Images form has zero records. And yet, you can see the table in the displayed Entries record which shows a related record from Images. Odd!
Aside from this issue of disappearing records, I have another question. Ultimately, I will want these links to show “related” records ONLY when multiple fields are the same. For instance, in the Entries form, I would only want to see records from the Images form when BOTH the Image Maker and the Image Number are the same. Is this possible?
Regards,
Jim

BrendanKeymasterHi Jim
The field you were joining with must have been deleted and that’s why it’s showing like that.
Make sure all your Forms also have a First Sort Field set to something.
You can do what you want by joining two fields if you add a Calculation field that concatenates the two fields together.
E.g. Field 1 + “ “ + Field 2
for the formula. You don’t have to have the space in between.

Jim WarthmanParticipantBrendan, thanks for the speedy reply!
I don’t know how the issue came about, but I created a new database, making sure to set the First Sort Field for each layout. I then created new “key” fields, and used them to join two forms.
And it worked!!
Thanks again, and I’m sure I’ll have more questions as I implement this test database.
Regards,
Jim
