Does Tap Forms allow the addition of credit card details? I’m creating a customer database and want to include the credit card details in a document.

    Hello Bill,

You can enter in whatever data you want into Tap Forms. There’s no restrictions on the kind of data you can store. But to store credit card details (such as the card number, expiration date, and CVV number), you should make sure your database is encrypted.

    Thanks,

Hi Brendon, Thanks for the quick reply. I’m aware about the creation of any kind of data but I was looking to find out wether a form existed that would sit inside the Tap Form that would not be open/visible unless clicked on. I didn’t want to have financial info open and freely ‘readable’ if a file is open while someone is accessing other information. The database would be encrypted of course.

    Brendon,
I should have added that I have downloaded Tap Forms for the trial period, so I’m in the exploratory stages of the software. I wonder whether another option is to create a separate file in the database that the user can click on to go to get the credit card information.

    Hi Bill,

There is already a built-in Credit & Debit Card form that you can use. You can encrypt the account number in there if you like. First set the Encryption Key on the Security Settings screen in the Preferences window. Then edit that form, then click on the Account Number field, then click on the Encrypt Field Values checkbox. Then when you try to access that form, you’ll be asked for the encryption key. However, this only works if you don’t already have the entire database encrypted. If you have the entire database encrypted, once you’ve logged into the app, all forms are freely accessible.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Thanks Brendan,
I will try it out. I like the idea of only having the credit card details encrypted. As I mentioned, I’m still going through the learning process but the requirement is for a very simple database that can be easily operated by people who only have basic computer skills. So I’m sure Tap Forms is the one for us.

    Hi Brendan,
Apologies for more questions but the database is for a small retail business. It will be on two macminis -one will be in the front where customers are and the other in the back office. I plan to have Customer info entered and accessed on the front computer and the Credit Card records on the back office mac. I assume this will require a second license.
At the moment I’m creating the forms and fields that I want to eventually use. When I pay for the software, do these records remain or do I need to start again?

In playing around with the software to familiarise myself with it, I’ve created a glitch which I cant resolve. When I create a new record, one of the fields is already filled in with the same name as the field eg, client name. How do I remove?

    Hi Bill,

For a business you do need to purchase a separate license for each machine.

As for your default value, check the field and make sure you don’t have the Default Value property set. You can just clear it out if you like.

    Thanks!

    Thanks Brendan,
This is for my wife’s salon business and it needs to be simple to allow the hairdressers to view, access, search and install client details. Just one more query though. Does the software have provision for a drop down facility in the fields?
