I am working with some large data files and trying to keep track of those records I have referenced. The easiest way would be to assign a colored background to the fields of the record concerned so that it stands out from other records in the database.

Is it possible to do this?

    Hi Martin,

You can do something similar to this.

If you have a Pick List, you can assign different colours to the values in the pick list.

Then, on the Form properties, there’s a “Record Colour Field” option.

When you set that to the Pick List field that has your colours set on it, Tap Forms will mark the record with a colour vertical bar.

Would that sort of work for your needs? It doesn’t colour the entire row, but definitely makes it easily to visually distinguish one type of record from another.

Attached is how it looks on the multi-column list view on Mac. It also shows up on the records list view on iPhone and iPad. A little colour indicator also appears next to the value you’ve selected on the Pick List as well as in the list of available Pick List values.

Thank you for the prompt reply Brendan. That would be a brilliant solution if I could make it work.. I have my pick list values and colors set.. And have selected the field etc, but still no colour bar showing.

See this screen shot which should have a blue bar on record number 1278

I don’t see any colours in your Pick List Values.

    See attached.

Thank you Brendan, It’s working just great now.

Excellent support as ever, and while I may be pushing beyond it’s design limits, Tap Forms is working well. An excellent product which has quickly become indispensable to me.

Running into a problem.. My list now has five values and I can no longer access the controls because the dialogue box is too small and there are no sliders or box expansion, meaning I can’t specify a color for a list item or add further items. See attached image.

Is there a solution to this?

Do you have a scroll wheel or a trackpad? You can usually just scroll through them all with one of those.

Alternatively, use the up/down keyboard to navigate up and down. I’ll look into that to see why the scroll bar isn’t showing though. Maybe you have the setting to turn them off instead of show when needed?

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Hi Brendan.

Settings are correct. I’m working with a 13″ Macbook Pro Retina and using the built in track pad. The up down keys work fine for scrolling the list, but I can’t see or access the controls below the list, which means There’s no point in adding to the list since it cannot be formatted.

    Cheers
    Martin

I just noticed that your Edit Pick Lists screen is shifted down about 20 points or so. What happens if you quit and re-launch Tap Forms? It should be positioned as in my example screenshot above.
