scneophyteParticipantI searched the forums and couldn’t find the answer(s):
- What are the best practices for forms / records that use photos?
- Is there a maximum file size for databases with photos?
- They don’t appear to be in the Attachments folder. Are they in the ../..cblite2/attachments folder as .blob files?
- I had the following issue: I could delete an existing image and add a new image without being in the “Edit Record” mode; however, the changes weren’t saved until I first entered the “Edit Record” mode before deleting / adding. Bug or works as designed?
FYI: The best way I found (on Mac) to add images is:
- Create link to PhotoBooth location: in Terminal: cd Pictures, then ln -s Photo\ Booth\ Library/Pictures PhotoBoothPics
- Open TP5, Photo Booth and a Finder window, arranged so that all can be accessed by the mouse
- Start the record in TP5, take image in Photo Booth, then drag from finder into TP5, finish and save record
I’ve been doing this rather than taking the photo directly in TP5 because PB provided a larger area in which to take the photo.
Is there a better way?

BrendanKeymaster1. There aren’t really any best practices for it. Just add the photos that you want.
2. Not specifically, but I’ve had some troubles with Cloudant sync where the file attachment was more than 100 MB. There seemed to be a timeout issue where the file attachment would timeout after 120 seconds. Most photos aren’t that big, so shouldn’t be a problem.
3. I really should have called the “Attachments” folder, “Aliases” because that’s where the alias file attachments will be put. The “attachments” folder is managed by Couchbase Lite and yes, that’s where all the photos and other file attachments get stored.
4. Must be a bug. The buttons on the photo shouldn’t be active when not in edit record mode. You can also drag and drop directly from Photo Booth into a Photo field in Tap Forms 5.

Aha! Brilliant! It took me a minute to comprehend that you mean that you can drag directly from the photo “feed” in Photo Booth” into TP5. Very cool!

scneophyteParticipantI was revisiting this question today in light of the fact that my TF document is 500MB and growing, and also because of my recent sync issues.
My current workflow is:
- Create a new record on the Mac. Nearby sync to the iPad
- Take the picture on the iPad directly into the form’s Photo field
- Sync back to the iPad
- Finish filling out the details of the record
Each image is around 4MB and I have hundreds of them. At this rate, my TF document will be over a GB by the end of the year.
Is this an issue?
Question: Would it be better practice, in consideration of total document size and syncing, to take the image on my iPad then email it to myself at a lower resolution and then drag it from my email on my Mac to the Photo field in the TF document?
Feature Request: Pictures taken with the camera directly in the Photo field are stored in a lower resolution, or we are given the option to do that (similar to the options when emailing photos)
