Battery usage in iOS?

FMP Go on an iPhone or iPad drains the battery as it constantly searches for Location, even if the user has disabled it.

It has all kinds of weird issues if you switch from one app to another & then return to FMP Go.

I’m just sick of the whole thing. Now I’ve retired & the old brain is on the downhill run, I just want easy solutions.

I downloaded the iOS version of TF & when I pulled down on the Forms layout, I was unhappy to see it beachballing as it tried to log onto iCloud, a service I don’t use.

Does that mean TF will also run down my device’s battery?

I use TF pretty heavily and don’t have any battery issues from TF usage. If you have a location field, it’ll only poll your location when you go to edit the field. I’d actually like a feature where each time I create a new record, I can have it autoset the current location if I set that on the field, sort of like a default, but that doesn’t exist. I wouldn’t expect TF to ping your location all of the time.

On the sync issues, go to Tools and Sync to make sure you didn’t accidentally login to iCloud and you can logout there if you were logged in. I just tested a blank database I created and when I pull down on the Forms list, it doesn’t do anything. Double check the Tools and if you can reproduce it, sounds like a bug to me :)

Not sure about weird issues switching between apps, usually works for me though sometimes iOS kills Tap Forms and it has to relaunch it entirely. Generally Tap Forms isn’t in the background for too long and I think is a well behaved citizen of my phone. I haven’t had any battery issues with it and checking the battery usage, it’s down the list having 1% usage with no recorded background time for an app I use daily.

    Hi Deborah,

Tap Forms is not a battery hog that I know of. It’s usually quite low on the list of activities as Sam has mentioned.

The pull down function is just a way to manually trigger a sync. But as Sam suggests, make sure you’re not signed in to iCloud on the Sync Settings screen.

    Thanks!

Thank you Sam & Brendan for your quick responses.

I checked the forum to see if anyone had a battery problem before posting. However most people charge their phones daily & might not notice.

I’m using TFLite & it’s attempt to initialize iCloud could be part of that version, not the one available for purchase.

As far as I can see, everything to do with iCloud is turned off.

So it’s all systems ‘go’ to buy & try over the weekend!

    :-)

    Hi Deborah,

The Tap Forms Lite version is very very old. I would not recommend buying it. Tap Forms 5 is the most up-to-date version and is the one I’m developing actively these days.

    Thanks,

    Brendan
