AnonymousInactiveI am trying the free version for the iPhone. The website says that the app supports bar codes, but I don’t see anything in the free version.
Does that come only in the purchased version?
If I scan a barcode on a wine bottle, will I be able to direct different parts of the scanned information to different fields in my database?
Thanks

BrendanKeymasterHello Gary,
I’ll just copy the email I sent you when I responded directly for the benefit of others who may come across this topic:
Barcode scanning works with any Number, Text, or Note field. So when you go to edit any of those field values you will see the barcode scanner button on top of the keyboard. Tap on it to bring up the camera and then scan a barcode. Tap Forms will take the number you scan and enter it into the field.
You can also lookup records by scanning the barcode using the barcode scanning button in the search field on the records list view.
Should work fine in the Lite version.
It will not pull data in from the Internet after you scan a barcode.
Thanks,
Brendan

K BParticipantBredan,
Is there an option to use barcode scanning to pull in data from the internet in the paid version? I believe I misunderstood the barcode scanning ability of the app when I purchased it. Not something I normally do. With all of the options out there, I got their capabilities mixed up.
Thanks,

BrendanKeymasterHi Kevin,
Barcode scanning in Tap Forms is used for simply entering the barcode value into a field and for searching your records to find the ones that have the barcode value in it. It won’t pull in data from the Internet. There’s so much data out there I wouldn’t even begin to know where to pull the data from. And certainly not from some place that gives the data away for free.
Thanks,
Brendan

K BParticipantThanks Brendan. I guess I screwed up. I have two products that I have no use for. My oversight and thank you for the quick reply. I have about 1000 children’s books that I need to inventory for my wife’s new classroom and typing each of them into a database or spreadsheet was not in the plans. :|

BrendanKeymasterHi Kevin,
If that’s your requirement, I would suggest looking into Delicious Library.
Thanks,
Brendan
