M_ichelParticipantHi all.
I like to look at my data in “column” view (AKA as “table” view or “columnar” view, etc.)
I now understand that if I select “Multi-column List View”, I can look at my data in such a view (at the top part of the window). I can also select which fields to display. OK.
Q1: Is it possible to have a “view” of columns A, C and D. And another view of columns A, B, D. And another view of columns A, C, D, E. Without having to re-select the visible fields each time I want to change the view??? In other words, is it possible to save different views?
——————————–
I also understand that the “layouts” (of which there can be many) allow different views of records, but one record at a time.Q2: What is a typical use of a “layout”? Data entry?
Q3: I suppose that it is not possible to use the “layout” part of the window to display records in table form, right? Does this mean that it is not possible to print records in table form?
(I must admit that I’m having a difficult time understanding the “UI”. Thanks for your patience…)

BrendanKeymasterHi M_ichel,
1. Yes you can do this using one or more Saved Searches. Your Saved Searches don’t actually have to have any Search Rules in them, but what it does enable is for you to set different sets of fields and sorting options for the multi-column list view.
2. Layouts can be used for data entry, display, or printing. They can also be used for generating labels too.
3. The layout function isn’t designed to allow formatting of a tabular result, although you could simulate that with the labels engine, but without headers and footers. But if you select Print from the File menu, there’s a “Table of records” print layout you can choose which will let you print out a full tabular view of all of your records. The Fields tab on that screen allows you to select which fields will be printed. You can also use the Fields tab to adjust the width of the columns to be printed.
Thanks!

M_ichelParticipant1- Great! Great! Great! Just what I was looking for! Does this approach also work on the iPhone version?

BrendanKeymaster1. Yes that’s right. The same View Settings menu on the iOS version stores the field selections independently if you have a Saved Search selected or no search selected. Tap Forms will store the settings on the Saved Search or the Form itself depending on what’s being displayed.
